I think you are referring to a 'pip' or shoot that doesn't bare or is not about to bare a flowering shoot. I assume it's for taking cuttings to produce new plants.

Hello, I'm wondering if you mean with regards to leafy off shoots that can grow up the stem? These, you can gently pull off and pot up to grow on as a new plant.
