When do you plant poppy seeds?

Autumn- spring where they are to flower!

Now...just scatter the seeds...no special treatment needed :)

Just follow the example of the parent plant. Spread them on the soil - NOW!

Are you talking about wild field poppies Ian? I was told that they flower better having been left under ground for years even thousands of years.........how old are you? I'll post a pic I took of a field that hadn't been ploughed for many years, this is what happened when they did, see my pics.

Do you have to prepare the soil at all? Or do you really just chuck a packet of seeds onto a bare bed??

As a good and caring gardener you wll make a nice, fine tilth and carefully sow the seed it to this. Do the poppies care; do they heck. They will grow 'almost' as well if you just chuck them onto any loose soil.

I wish all gardening was that easy Bulbaholic !

Thanks Bulbaholic - I am off out tomorrow to chuck couple of seed packets onto the ground! Thanks for asking the question too Ian - as I thought I was going to have to sow them all in the greenhouse and then transplant etc - this is much easier!!
