Phoenix canariensis - Canary Island Palms

Phoenix canariensis - Canary Island Palms (Phoenix canariensis - Canary Island Palm)

These palms grow wild (by the thousands) in Mission San Jose District of Fremont, CA. (The San Francisco Bay Area). There used to be very large Eucalyptus trees which were cut down next to these trees. The trees used fall on the houses in big storms and destroy them. Also, wild Macaw parrots used to live in this area when the Eucalyptus trees were there...they are all gone now. :>(

Milky:

Thanks! It would've been more spectacular if I could have taken a photo of them going up to the hills. The weather wasn't the best, though.

Palmate:

It's a pretty tough palm, however, I guess it has a limit.

This part of the Bay Area rarely gets a frost. It's considered one of the best banana belts in the Bay Area (if not the best).
