Its a nice day here..my excuse for posting this.

The rubber tree looks excellent! The King palm is big and very healthy!

My Alexander Palm in the ground is growing so big, very fast. It's been in the ground for I think 10 years now. It must be about 25' tall. It keeps flowering and aborting the whole inflorescence...I think it's due to the drought, though.

I see King palms blooming in winter here..Much smaller then this. I haven't gotten it to bloom.

Yes, I have seen several King palms flowering and producing viable seed there in the SF Bay Area.

That's strange your tree hasn't flowered and produced seed yet. It's definitely large enough. I know the ones in Mission San Jose, Fremont flower (where I lived). I don't know if they fruit, though.

How old is your King palm?

The larger is about 10 years old now. Maybe 12. I think every other large King palm in town has spent inflourescenses or budding at one time this year. Never this one.
Next year try that flowering fertilizer.

So, your big King palm is a little older than my big Alexander palm. My Alexander is putting out a frond every 3 weeks or so. I can't believe how fast it's growing. It still wants more water and fertilizer.

You know there are real differences in King palm genetics. I got one that's extremely sensitive to winds. I've seen other around town with no frayed fronds..mine is always fighting that.
There also are some that have a tendency to hold many fronds at a time..again,I'm not seeing that. I don't know how much larger or older it would have to be.
Its like my Mango seedlings..the best ones are much better then the worst, and all came from the same batch.
If I had to guess? My Kings are more warm needy then average.

Another example is how much better that Ruby Ficus is then the Variegated elastica I have in ground. Both are Ficus elastica..but Ruby is much faster growing, and more cold tolerant.
Luck of the draw.

Yes, many palms are variable. That's what makes them so unique.

My Alexander never has gotten wind-damage before, until last January 31 and February 1 wind storm this year. The winds were extremely strong (gusting 55 to 70 mp/h). It caused lots of damage in San Diego County. It toppled the largest known Torrey Pine in California, which I believe was 160 ft tall.

That was a state wide windstorm. It was big. Today 73f and a spritz of rain..some winds.
I might have to water tomorrow. Warmer. Still, watering goes farther now.

For some reason it was worse in San Diego County than most of the state (except for the mountains), though...not sure why.

It's suppose to be warm today through Thursday, then some showers on Friday and Saturday, possibly. I never hold my breathe. lol!

We had big downpour with lightning and thunder on Monday evening. It caused a 5 1/2 ft. branch on my large plumeria tree in the ground to break. I just cut branches back a week ago because it was getting too large.
