The new needles are sweetly resinous and emerging...tree is in blossom...they are strange looking...see next pic.

Ah... yes I see that now! You may think I'm strange but in the early spring when the needles are emerging they are so tasty that I will pick one and chew the needles to release a sweet piney resinous taste! it's absolutely unique...Balsam Fir buds are similar...like chewing mint or parsley...it's a wonderful taste!

Wow! I didn't know you could chew pine needles. I'v heard of chewing mint and parsley though. lol!

These deciduous needles are more leaf-like than say, fir needles, they are soft and grass like...and yummy...but best to just chew and spit! lol...

Very interesting looking tree! At first glance I though they were
bromeliads on a branch.
