Sauromatum venosum - Voodoo Lily

Sauromatum venosum - Voodoo Lily

The flower of Sauromatum venosum lasts for about 24 hours. We took it to Aberdeen Show on Saturday but it did not open up until this morning (Monday). This is a fine novelty plant that requires a completely dry winter and then puts up a beautiful leaf in summer.

Well, I suppose it all depends on your tastes, lol!!!
To me it smells very much like cattle slurry, which doesn't bother me, Mg says it 'stinks'. The plant is currently in the front porch - I noticed that the postman did not hang around for long yesterday.
After the 'flower' it will produce an amazing sickle shaped leaf and then get to sit on the patio for the rest of the summer.

Unusual but I am laughing as I know what some would say to me that know me I was once bought a voodoo stick also voodoo marackers from Hati back as a present as I use to tell fortunes and one lad borrowed my cb radio and blew it up a month later his house blew up, as his dad had a gas bottle in the house but of course I got the blame accusing me of putting a jinx on him lol I laugh how people think. Guilty conscience is what I say.
