thanks Janette. I saw my neighbour taking a photo of this tree 10 min ago..really beautiful sight..the whole grass patch is pink by now (evening).

Hywel, was it a tabebuia rosea? Do you have a photo? These trees are common in Singapore. Reminds me of cherry blossoms when the wind blows.
