We saw this herd on a trip to the Pacific ocean west of us here.

Aren't they beautiful. We have them in Arizona, too. During the mating season they make a huge racket but not in my area. Just about 40 or 50 miles up the mountain road.

We have herds of elk like this that like to migrate through an area about 15 minutes from here. We have black bear, they are shy don't see them that often. Lots of coyotes...they are not shy...we have to keep our cats and small dogs inside almost full time because they will kill & eat them. We have a cougar here in town as of late...they have come closer in because we have so many deer here in town. The cougar is close by traveling through my neighborhood. We have eagles, red tail hawks, owls, all manner of seabirds....lots of racoons...and chipmunks...marmonts live in the forests, they are prairie dog like. We have opposums, skunks, etc. as well. We have otters, seals, grey whales come now and again as do Orcas & minke whales...there are Dahl porpoises, small species of sharks...i have seen them all as I worked on a dive boat for 4 years..it was a great adventure with my children invloved...the biggest octopus in the world live in our waters off our shore and yes I have seen them as well actually cooked a small one in the galley of our live a board at the time. :- )

Hi Catfinch
~My daughter and son in law did a three week drive from Vancouver to Calgary via Banff this year in may/june ~saw black bears etc but Caz was really disappointed not to see any moose or elk.
They were talking about going back next year but now thinking to visit Borneo to see Orangs in the wild and on to New Zealand.
They had a fantastic time!~

My husband & I traveled east through our state and then went north into Canada near Kelona, from there we continued north into the Banf and Canadian Rockies and then as far east as Calgary...we saw grizzley bears and elk, wolves etc...but no moose even though we looked for them like crazy. Funny thing is there are a lot of them where I go to visit my sister-in law in Eastern Washington but I never see them there either. I have a passion to see one!..LOL...
Vancouver, Canada is very close, just a little north of here actually.
