Actaea Chocoholic

Planted this in early summer and it has finally come into flower. Choose it as loved the colour of the foliage. Hopefully next year it will put on more of a show. :-)

Yes its a lovely colour and a good contrast with the plant on the left(not sure what that is)

Thank you Sue. Plant on left is a Spotted Laurel. Found it when I cleared last year. It is a bit leggy as it had been really crowded by all the weeds growing around it.

I wondered if it was but wasn't sure as its so near the Actaea and the wall. You must have had a really impressive weed collection if you discovered it underneath!

Thats lovely. The foliage is gorgeous. Mine are a bit hidden now...can only see the flower spike. But its the foliage I love.

Always liked these but never bought one :-)

Lol Sue, it was. Couldn't get to the wall through the dense growth. If being truthful, some of it was just plants I didn't want but also, that was the point where the blackthorns started. It was a bit smaller. Can I prune it, 1 so it is a better shape and 2 to stop it getting too big?

I'm the same Karen. This garden was very green with not much colour. Will admit that when I bought it, it was on an Impulse due to the colour of the foliage. Due to the horsetail, we don't plan to plant anything more in that area so I can treat the horsetail so it will be a while before it gets hidden :-).

Daylily, is that yet? Lol. I am still after buying the Indian Summer after seeing yours, then Karen. I've been banned from getting anymore plants this year but that is the 1st on next years wish list. :-)

Love the new photo :-). I will have to go out and smell it. I love the smell of phlox. As you say, wouldn't the world be boring if we all liked the same things :-).

Never had a spotty laurel Jen, so no experience re keeping it small. But if I did have one i would certainly risk it as I wouldn't want a big one...

Thanks Sue, I've never had one either. I realy don't want it big and if need be will take it out. Left it when I cleared that area as it was more or less the only thing I did leave. Will look it up on google.

I was put off them when I was very small Jen. Our neighbour had several that had got straggly and scruffy. They're probably quite nice if well grown. Anyway as you say you can always get rid later if you want to.

Thanks, Sue. I looked them up after reading your reply. Seems I can prune but not till May. Will wait till then and have a go. If it goes wrong then will just remove it. Thank you
