Snakes head Fritillary

Snakes head Fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris (Snake's head fritillary))

I put a pot of offsets in the shed for the winter and shoved them up against the wall with some polycarbon to shelter them a little more.
And her they are, in bloom!

How lovely Meanie , mine are just showing through the grass i'm sure they will be ages before they flower .....

I suppose that I did kind of cheat by putting them undercover, but I only did it because they were the offsets.
No sign of the parents yet though.

When did you sow the seeds Alex?
They're a bulb, so it may be a while....

Thank you Delonix!
It was taken outdoors in daylight, but I used flash (as if there is no immediate background it's a good way to get the black background).

Meanie:

I use the flash on my camera...I never get the black background. How do you achieve that?

28 Feb, 2011

I use quite a small f-stop (depth of focus).

Meanie:

Thanks! I'll have to try it.

Set the camera white balance to daylight (sunny, shade or cloudy - whichever is appropriate) and manually activate the flash. This is how I do it with my DSLR.

Meanie:

Thanks for the instructions! I do have those settings.
