Uncarina or Mouse Trap tree is still blooming. This Malagasy native is a pretty widely grown drought tolerant shrub or small tree. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego on Dec. 13, 2010.

I like that! The flower looks a little like an Alamanda bloom. Might it be a better alternative over here I wonder?

Meanie:

This shrub is extremely tender to cold...more cold sensitive than Allamanda. It needs hot, dry condition most or all of the year. Cool damp or cold weather would most likely kill it pretty quickly.

Delonix... I looked up this tree on the internet.... trying to find out why it is called Mouse Trap Tree... I found this ...

Fruit has small inwardly pointed barbs mounted on 3/4in pedicels. Don't touch this fruit unless you want to spend some time trying to remove it from your fingers.

Does that mean that mice get trapped in the barbs ?
