Ah, that explains it....taken in Sept! I thought you had a sub-tropical micro-climate going on there Dorjac! :))

Alas they are now looking sad as the frosts have scorched them. It was a sub arctic micro climate while we were away!!

Thanks Terra. Still got lots of tidying up to do. Can't bear to clear things up while they are still in bloom. My 'microclimate' seems to keep them going longer.

Wow what a lot of colour and interest something for everyone including me.... I think I can just see a Heuchera I could be wrong but I like to think it is!

Nice to hear from you Vicki 1. I have a little collection of Heucheras thanks to your inspiring words about them. I think you can see Caramel. They look sad when it's frosty. They perk up slowly after the frost goes, then quite jaunty. I think their greatest enemy is the vine weevil. I think those dreamy blue Asters just floated in. Hope you stay successful in, what might be, a difficult year ahead......best wishes.

I think this year could see a lot of small nurseries struggle and maybe not make it.

With the vine weevil you just need to keep and eye open and use Provado or nematoides this helps keep them at bay.
Also go out at dusk, take a torch and pick them off.
Heucheras get a bad press with vine weevil really but loads of things are a favourite for them
Fushias, Clematis, primulas, busy lizzy, cyclamen, alot of shade lovers, vines, loads of things that you probably like they love too.
So the thing to do is keep numbers down by using above products and be vigilant in the evenings.
If they do get vine weevil and you are early enough. Just clean out pot and take the stalk thats left even if it has no roots, wash very well to remove any eggs, then replant in small pot until roots have grown back. Heucheras are desperate to live in spite of any pesky pest :)

I think I read somewhere that peatless compost helps to stop vineweevil grubs nibbling at the roots. I have been using this.....on my second large bag. I have Provado and will drench all pots soon, including Fuchsia shortly. I had one Heuchera nibbled in the way you descrbed. Did as you say, and it is still alive and firm in the pot, so far. Remains to be seen if the fuchsias have survived, as I have no greenhouse to shelter them. Business wise it is going to be hard all round, I sense. A lot of people will lose plants and look for replacements and that will help.

yes you will be right that alot of people will sadly loose plants hopefully they will be looking for very hardy varieties like my heucheras :))))) Fingers crossed lol
