Spring in my Winter Garden.

Spring in my Winter Garden.

This is my Kilmarnock weeping Salix just starting to show her silvery catkins, proving life is returning to my garden at long last! I have underplanted it with Hellibores and a Clematis, that will later climb through the Salix to prolong flowering interest.

Thanks San! It never looks much at this early stage of regrowth, but this is an ideal tree for a pot, or in a small area, as it won't get much bigger than this either, and I do like its weeping habit too. Am chuffed you like it :~))

Are you still having rain over your way San? It just doesn't seem to want to stop here, and trying to get washing dry is a total nightmare, specially when you don't have a tumble dryer! Was so sad to hear about your pond headache, but what fantastic support all the GoYs gave to try and help you get through the worst of it !! . I have been there too, my friend, my heart truly went out to you and Baz after all that hard work you both put in, but with a bit of time and patience, you will have a fantastic water feature to be justifiably proud of!! This weeping Salix is the perfect tree for a centre circle, should you decide to get one for your design San, plus you can grow a Clematis up it as I do, so you get summer interest as well.:~))

Why thank you Sixpence and Gurth, I am rather fond of these little trees, and it does look good near water. I have another one next to the other pond in my Summer Garden area, near my Pergola, but that one really needs thining out this year! :~))

Up to a few days ago, all you could see of my plants were little snorkles everywhere lol! But, last few days, that strange yellow orb in the sky has cast her warm glow over my garden, hence my absence on GoY, and I now have plants lazing on deckchairs and sipping Miracle Grow mixers, and wearing sunglasses lol!!

Looking very pretty, how do you keep it so open? or is it still quite young? :-)

Hello Ba, always a joy to hear from you again! Just after Winter it does look awful bare. though have added extra planting now,but now Spring has well and trully sprung, it has filled out a lot more. It is kept fairly open,as not that large an area. We originally thought of it as a place for our smoker friends to sit out, as neither my OH or I smoke, but we tend to use this seated area during any nice days during Winter, after we have shut down the main garden, as it is close to the house. Am glad you like it though my friend :~))x

This is a great little tree, Cristina, and will stay about this height, though since this photo taken, it has really thickened out. I adore Clematis, so like you, Cristina, if it stands still long enough, I will plant a clem to grow up into it! Lol!! :~))x

Hello Katkins! You are so right, it is! I even occasionally sit out here with a glass of wine in the evening....... thank you so much for your lovely comment :~))

Just seen this again Flori and realise my previous comment makes no sense at all lol 8-/ I meant to ask how you keep your Kilmarnock willow so open, mine became a thick lump, or is it a young one, you must have thought me daft asking how you keep your winter garden patio open lol:-))

Ba, after all the nutty stuff posted on my Somerset blog, I dare not think any such thing~you as 'normal' as me! Ha ha ha! My OH cut a lot of dead wood out of this and really opened it up, not that you would think so now it has leafed again! Think you can trim back quite hard, which allows for better air circulation, so can only be good for the tree. Probably best to do it after the catkins have gone over in early Spring. Mine recovered well and is a few years old now, so no reason why yours shouldn't be the same. Hope that helps! :~))x

29 Jun, 2010

No, it was in my old garden lol:-))

29 Jun, 2010

Yep, just reconsidered~you're daft! LOL! :~))x
