trying to grow a jackfruit!! has been doing well until the Santa Ana winds have been blowing!! (they are winds that blow in from the desert, that are very hot and dry in Southern California for those not in California)

i learned that the hard way, my tree was very unhappy this fall with the cold spell and then hot dry santa ana winds. where in SD are some good specimens? would love to see what microclimate they are growing in?!?!

It's considered an ultra-tropical tree...so it does need to be protected from cool weather. Most of the ones here in San Diego are facing south. They do need a warm exposure even here in San Diego. I have a few pics of small trees posted. I've never seen a large tree (50ft/15m) like how they grow in Hawai'i. I would assume they would only top out about 20ft/6.1m or so here in Southern California.

Your little tree looks very healthy! Jackfruit isn't the easiest tree to grow in S. California.
Yes, this tree doesn't like the Santa Ana winds! The extremely low humidity and heat from the winds can easily burn the leaves. There's some nice trees here in San Diego though.
