A busy summer

Well hello again everyone! I’m back after a very busy summer in the city. I work for the Marketing Bureau in Glasgow and with the Commonwealth Games taking over our lives for the past 6 months, I’m only just getting the work-life balance back again! Glasgow has been so vibrant this year and even the flowers played the game!

We had a floral mascot at Glasgow Green:

The flower “baskets” are magnificent and more like flower fountains! Unfortunately the photo won’t upload but you can just see one in the above photo in the background to the left. These are all over the city and bring a real burst of colour to the streets.

Unfortunately I didn’t get out into my garden much except with the watering can when we had an unusually dry spell. The mange tout peas died :(

But the potatoes did really well despite my lack of care!

(Excuse the piece of string holding it up. They started to wilt probably because the potatoes were ready but my lack of gardening experience meant I didn’t realise it was time to dig!)

The Stick gave us the bumper crop of Blueberries that we’d been expecting and the rhubarb seems to be everlasting! The strawberries are tiny but still had a strong flavour. I don’t know if that’s the variety I have or if I’m not doing something right. Try again next year!

So despite me being too busy to pay much attention to my garden, the “grow your own” plants have been doing really well. I think it’s probably a good thing I wasn’t around much as I’d probably have killed them with over-fussing! Just found a recipe for Rhubarb Vodka so I’ll get started on that at the weekend and that’ll be Christmas sorted!

It seems everything done well without your molly coddling - a lesson worth learning perhaps :)
I don't 'grow my own' on the basis it's far too much work, maybe I've been looking at it from the wrong angle!
