Offa's dyke walk this morning.

We live a stone’s throw from Offa’s dyke so for a change decided to walk the small portion of it which leads to the Severn Estuary.
Travelling north it reaches Prestatyn on the Northcoast of Wales…on average it takes 12 days to complete.(for the very fit)
Offa was ,king of Mercia 757to 796AD.An early King of England, great landowner.He built a ‘dyke’ dividing West and East…a Medieval earthworks.
The following photos are the actual trail.The third is the view of the Severn Bridge just in the distance.If you stretch the photo there is a faint image of it.
Along the trail I noticed this attractive tree foliage…the leaves look like Beech,but the yellow with a pink centre I had never seen before.Could anyone identify it please.
The last 2 photos show the second ‘kissing gate’ and a map of Offa’s dyke path.

Lovely area to walk through, Julia! Nice to hear a little of the history too!
Digressing slightly, I read about the 2 chaps who are part of the "independence for Mercia" group only last week. For a small "island" there's lots of areas keen to be separated! I found the best part of their story was the "ancient " history of the region.

Can't help you with the name of the tree! It looks a lovely walk but 12 miles is definitely too far! lol
