Amsterdam Botanic Gardens....Highlights

Yes, so here we are in Amsterdam again. The Canal cruises are great fun, you definitely get the best views of the city from the water.
Here is one of the smallest houses in the city…I’m so glad I don’t live here, stairs all the time. Mind you, what with the stairs and the cycling, they all look pretty fit over there!
On our last full day in Amsterdam we started off with a short visit to the Botanic Gardens. Sadly the waiter at the cafe was determined not to serve us, so that put OH in a grumpy mood, and rather set the tone for the morning! He’s never that great without his Caffeine shot!! ;)) Unfortunately the big Palm House was closed for renovation, so there was a limited display. Three glasshouses, not too exciting I’m afraid, and the woodland garden, which was lovely and contained some wonderful trees….
Including the Redwood which you just have to touch…
This lovely knobbly one…….
And the Water Fir….
Sometimes the simple flowers are the most beautiful aren’t they? Does anyone know what this white shrub/small tree is called? I did get it’s name, but as I’d heard of it before I thought I’d remember it, but of course, now I’ve forgotten it again!
And then when I stood admiring this lovely Aesculus, OH heard a squawking sound and looked up and saw a pair of these higher up in the tree! The next morning we saw a flock of these in the park, being chased by a great big Heron and all hell was breaking out up there from the sound of it! Wonderful to see it though!
At the shop on the way out was this wonderful display of tulips…..inspiration for next years pots!
…oh and NO I didn’t buy anything!!!

The parting shot with the container of tulips is so pretty... and the forest/tree walk looked so inviting. You did see some pretty sights in Amsterdam...and I notice you say the people look pretty fit there (right in the frame is a muscly fella looking the part....lol)....well captured :)

the people around the italian lake of garda are incredibly fit and slim looking ~ i hardly dare go out!!

Sticki, you are so right! The Italians around Lake Garda are hilarious, even the ferry boat attendents are all gelled up with their dark shades on and strutting around!
We didn't go on a tour, we just booked a flight and hotel on the internet. Then we got a Frommers guide and decided what to do while we were there. I'm not keen on being in crowds of people, so organised tours are never going to be for me.
J, we saw three quite elderly grey haired ladies, fit as fiddles, in the park, all meeting up for a coffee on their bikes.....gets you thinking!

On yer bike!! I just look at a bike and run a mile, unless it's a flat road!
Lovely pics Karen. It looks like the tiny house is empty?

Yes, it was a lovely building. They were reparing the roof which looked to be in quite a bad way. We never did get our cuppa though!

Hi Karen - Hope you had a good time. The pink flower looks a lot like either a peony or a single rose.
