I felt a little like you when I first used mine. My birthday was probably a month before yours & my bus pass arrived at the beginning of July. I have only used it for the local buses - though a couple of weeks ago we went to see our daughter who lives in a village 5 miles away.

On Bank Holiday Monday we may go to another town that's only 5/6 miles away for the day to visit the famous street market. It's been many years since we last went to see it.

Then in a few weeks time I will use it for the furthest trip yet - to Cambridge. I will spend most of the day there I suppose as I want to visit the Botanical gardens there. I have only ever seen them once wayyyy back in 1966! I hope to get plenty of photos then I will make a blog using some of them so everybody on GoY can share in my experience!

I understand the Gov's dilemma though lol Joanella I recon they'll offer us half fare.

B&Q discount day is Wednesday,Joanella.Lol.I hope they don't take it off us,I'm sure there would be an uproar,as there are so many"grey" voters now...but I suppose now they are in,its too late...but we will see...I personally wouldn't have minded having to pay a small amount,instead of it being free,say 50p,like we do on our local trains,as it is still a good discount,maybe they will do something like that...we live in hope..Lol

A funny thing happened to me on the way..........I was about to get off the park n' ride when I noticed a chap who looked, well old! but he was thumbing a mobile phone......quickly. Thinking to myself, he must have started long ago, I followed him across the car park and was stunned when he got into an open top sports car. Feeling somewhat dejected I got into me 'agricultural vehicle' and drove home,

lol joan, enjoy your bus pass, great now apparently you can trvel just about anywhere really cheap, alot of my clients have great days and weekends away traveling on public transport, i have another 10 years to go but them they wont have them no doubt haah

What worries me about text typing is that folk may forget how to spell. I remember once asking my accountant, why do you add all those figures with a pencil and not your calculater? He said "I don't want to forget how to add up"

Heron i thought it was free for oap s & children in Wales..i looked it up on net today & London is free for oap s & for children up to 16 &18 for students i dont get that .:o)
Bloomer i would not mind paying half the rate it is now ..i get a day saver to m/c £4.10p and one way is £3.80p and i dont think the discount on railway is much for oap s i will look at that one tmoz i think :o)

It may be that different areas have their own discounts,Joanella,but in West Yorkshire we can travel on the train anywhere within the border for 50p one way,or £1 return.If we want to visit south or north Yorkshire,we would have to pay the full fare from our border.Times for travel are same as the buses.After 9.30am,and
anytime at weekends.Worth checking out for Lancashire,though,as you live in a big county like me,so plenty of scope...

Bloomer,i dont think our discounts are half as good as yours, but i will check..i think all the country should be the same then we all know where we are up to..we have the same off peak hours ..i think :o)

Yes do,Heron.Hope its as good as ours.If we want to go to our furthest point allowable ,we sometimes have to change to a connecting train at Leeds station,and this we can do also,as long as you stay within the station,so still 50p.We have been as far as York,but as it outside the border,we than catch a free bus from Leeds..not bad for a day out,we know how to live
it up ,don't we ? Lol.I find it very useful to google the local bus and train timetables,and bookmark them for reference.Its very handy,as you can enter your destination,times you want to travel,and return,and all relevant info.Much easier than trawling through various time tables.

happy birthday for yesterday!!--- I've found out that I'm not eligible until i'm 62 years--- and 1 month--- always knew that when I will finally get it ( and the pension ) there would be no money left in the pot!! --- price of being a 'baby boomer ' they say

Hubby and I have both got our bus pass but have not made use of them yet....we both drive and usually go everywhere together in our car (I know, carbon footprint and all that!). It could be made into quite an adventure on the buses...I've read of one person traveling from Yorkshire down to Cornwall...all free on buses. Now that's dedicated bus travel for pensioners :)
