WEEDS

Hi all, I was in the garden this afternoon yet again weeding feeling a bit down at the amount of weeds I’ve got in my new garden, when thought it might be nice to do a record of my garden and hopefully looking back over time will see it evolve. I have 2 “helpers” when doing the garden. My 2 german shepherds. The darker one, Shadow is only 10 months and thinks I need his help or he is playing chase with my 7yr old one Ben through my borders. But getting back to my weed! I found out I have Horsetail. Its everywhere. Then there are brambles, nettles, and everyother weed it seems. The borders look full but so much of it is, you guessed weeds. I’m trying to dig most of them out as Shadow at times tries to eat the plants so worried about spraying but know I’ve got to spray the horsetail which is luckily one of the plants he’s not interested in. So the plan is, clear the other weeds then start on the horsetail.

This is my 2 boys being good for once.
Was weeding under the Magnolia and looked across at what seemed like a miniature meadow of Horsetail

Hi, weeding is extremely daunting at times but we just have to keep going at it bit at a time, sorry you've got horsetail, hope you can get on top of it, keep looking at the lovely pics on here, they have given me the enthusiasm to try and achieve a lovely garden, keep at it. Jane :-))

Welcome to GoY, Jen. Good luck with all the weeding, and just think (looking on the bright side) butterflies will love your nettles!

Couldn't clik Like for this one because of the horsetail - what a job! Love the look of your house, its very attractive, and how wonderful to have a mature Magnolia!

Thank you for welcome. Am just having quick break from the weeding lol. I wonder if nettles have the same effect as botox? 1 has just got me across the face. See I am trying to be positive :-) but don't plan to test that thought out anymore. Jen

You'll get there if you keep at it. Don't give up and you'll conquer the horsetails eventually :)

Welcome to GoY, what a lovely house you have.

You have my most sincere sympathies. We have horses tail, our back garden contained more of that than anything else when I moved in. Don't just spray, it's so tough it pretty much ignores it. If you want to spray you need to break it in some way first, either crush it or cut it, then spray immediately. It'll take multiple applications but it should work - just be careful of your lovely dogs, we think ours ingested some weed killer a local farmer sprayed, he wasn't well for a few days (seems fine now though thankfully). Otherwise just keep pulling it, pull as much of the root as you can and try not to let it grow. You will weaken it and with a bit of luck get rid of it.
