I have just received two from T&M but as freebies from Daily Telegraph and they are small. Potted them up in small pots and have got them in my conservatory with about 200 other various plants waiting to go our in the garden.. Will these baby clems. be large enough to go out this year and should I have planted them in larger pots – they are in 3" at the moment

My comment would be wait and see. These are not the hardiest of clematis and if in doubt, I would be inclined to keep them in the conservatory for next winter. However, if they are growing strongly and making lots of growth, then I would plant them out this year and mulch the roots well next autumn.
Clematis put on a lot of root growth - if you see them in a Garden Centre, they are sold in deep pots so try to get them into those later in the year when they need potting on
