Rose in pot, and a neglected front garden.

I recently bought a nice pot in which I thought of planting an Iceberg rose, and put it by the front door,
and today I finally got around to planting it.
It looks lop-sided because it’s only balancing on bricks for now, until I can put something more permanent there for it.
I have planted some bulbs with it for spring colour – Chinodoxa, small early Crocuses, Tete a Tete Narcissi and Hawera Narcissi.
I’ll show you some photos of them when they flower next year :)
In my neglected front garden there are also some hardy Fuchsias, which this year have done slightly better then the ones in the back garden ..
Among them is this ‘Genii’ which has lost its golden foliage since the clocks went back :-
And this is a scruffy-looking ‘Mrs Popple’ :-
Also there’s a too-tall Pyracantha, but it is full of berries for the birds :-
In the above photo you can see how tall the Pyracantha is – it’s about 6 ft … and also on the wall you can see a bit of wood where there was once a trellis holding my lovely Jasminum nudiflorum,
but last winter it fell down in a gale and since the wood in the trellis was rotten I took it away.
Due to “circumstances beyond my control” I haven’t been able to put another trellis there yet and I’ve cut the Jasmine back rather drastically (hoping it will regrow next year)
and it has a few flowers on it now, although they are hidden behind a rather large Fuchsia :-
The wall looks in a state but will be painted in the spring,
I must get to grips with the front garden next year !

I think we all have lots of "to-do's" waiting for our attention, Hywel. Your front garden is colourful and the birds will welcome the berries in the winter. I really like your new pot and hope the rose does well for you.

I love the pattern the bricks make against the white walls - what an attractive house you have, Hywel :)

Its nice to know what you finally chose for that lovely new pot that we all admired! I remembered your big jasmine nudiflorum - what a shame the trellis rotted, but that is the way of trellises, sadly. It looks nice with the Fuchsia though.I have a very small neglected one and every time I see its poor little half dozen flowers I think about you and feel guilty!
Why do you think the Pyracantha is too tall? If you've got it why not flaunt it...Its done very well hasn't it? A treat for the birds anyway.
You know I think Genii looks better with just plain leaves!
Looking forward to seeing the Spring bulbs in the new pot.

I don't think for one minute that your front garden is neglected!
I do love winter jasmine and feel sure yours will come back stronger than ever.
As always your fuschias have lasted really well.
Do show us the spring colour from your bulbs.

There is always something to do in a garden. I expect the birds prefer an autumn garden that's not too pristine. Please see that as a 'green' compliment.

Thanks for all your compliments about my front garden and the rose in the pot.
Wildrose I haven't even weeded there this year and it is full of grass and overgrown shrubs and moss, but I haven't shown all that :D
I'm glad you like the bricks Sheila :)
Yorklass the Pyracantha is on top of a four foot wall, and the branches tend to grow out into the path between this house and next door, but it does look nice with the berries, and also when it flowers.
I hope your Jasmine will have more flowers as it ages, mine took a long time before it got to the way you remember it in my photos.

I love the Iceburg rose Hywel and I need to look round my garden to see if I can find space for one! The one I had in the last garden was too big to move and it was always full of flowers . I shall look forward to seeing your spring bulbs next year. It seems you have a lot of jobs to do too but I am sure you will soon catch up! Your jasmine will soon catch up too!

Your garden is very colourful love fuchsia and Pyracantha . You could use a couple of beeeze blocks painted for your potted rose nice shaped pot.

I'm sure the Iceberg will look wonderful in that pot Hywel, when it blooms next year and what a good idea to put in some spring bulbs too. The Jasmine and fuchsia make a lovely combination.

Lots of interest going on in your front garden, Hywel . Lots of colour and a feast for the birds too! I look forward to seeing your bulbs in bloom in the spring! Your pot is very well placed, and itβll be lovely to see your rose flourishing.
