This cactus has produced the most wonderful show of flowers this year. It’s never been so good !
It had 7 blooms all open at the same time, and I had to take some photos to show you.

It’s called Echinopsis arachnacantha aurea, and hails from Bolivia ….

There is one more bud on it still to open, but I didn’t think all these seven would open together :o)

I love how you are so passionate about your Cactii Hywel. It's hard to think such a little thing could produce such beautiful blooms. Glad they all opened for you.

It is wonderful, Hywel - you must be so happy to see it flowering so prolifically. Such a lovely colour.

Amazing Hywel.

Fabulous ! I never knew anyone who had such success
with Cacti. How old is this plant ?

7 Aug, 2013

I've had it about 3 years. I would guess it's total age is about 6 or 7 years.

Super one Hywel :o)

The flowers only last a day or two, and are no more ...

love it, love it, love it!

what a gorgeous soft yellow. I really must start sorting out a succulent/cacti collection for my lab. the conditions would be good I think.

That would be ideal, especially if the windows faced south or west.
Many would bloom during the summer holiday period, but lots flower in the spring.

That's luscious! Absolutely beautiful.

What a show! Do the flowers last a long time? :-)

8 Aug, 2013

They last 2 days. They have shrivelled up now ...

8 Aug, 2013

Its gorgeous Hywel and such a lovely colour......

8 Aug, 2013

I should cry if they shrivelled up on me !

Thank you all for your comments about my cactus :o)

They'll be back next year Diane :o) This is the second flush of flowers on this one this year, and there's still one bud left to open now ... probably in a day or two ... it's not all over yet.
I also have other cacti with flowers on them, and some with lots of buds, that have not flowered before, so I can look forward to those :o)

I suppose that's part of the attraction Hywel, the ephemeral nature of the flowers? They seem more precious when they finally open and they don't hang about looking rubbish when they fade. I can't wait for my indoor succulents to show signs of flowering:-)

8 Aug, 2013

Flowers need water, and there isn't much around in the desert ... so they don't last long.
I hope you get some flowers on your succulents soon :o)

Wow! Fantastic to see this. Thank you for sharing.

They're stunning, Hywel! I've become slightly obsessed by cacti and succulents this year. I'm making some jewellery based on a cactus flower, tho' I've temporarily forgotten its name!

8 Aug, 2013

It is simply beautiful Hywel.

10 Aug, 2013

Magnificent! Are they making any seeds?

10 Aug, 2013

Thank you both :o)

No they're not making seeds Steragram ... the flowers just shrivelled up and fell off ...

10 Aug, 2013

Thank goodness for the camera!

11 Aug, 2013

They are really beautiful, Hywel! I echo Melchisedec's post

"Thank goodness for the camera!"

If it weren't for our modern day cameras we loose such a lot of things. Our memory is never quite as good as we think it is & this is also a great way to save the "flowers" for posterity as well as being able to show them to people perhaps 100s of miles from you!

13 Aug, 2013

Thank you both :o)
The colours never come out properly with these modern cameras though.

13 Aug, 2013

Wow love those .
