June garden in the rain..

Although it’s nice to see some of the garden from indoors it’s so much nicer to get out between the showers amongst the plants and shrubs. I had a quick look around intending to take a few photos of the peony’s before the sharp showers dashed them. The stems of the Sarah Bernhardt were bent right over, I have left it quite late to support them. It always seems to ‘chuck it down’ with rain as soon as they open their flower buds. It’s so wet just lately that we aren’t getting the beautiful heady scent we normally have from them. It doesn’t seem to be bothering the bees.
We had 2 swarms cross the garden 2 weeks ago. A bit scary but they weren’t interested in us.. thank goodness.

I am happy to see that the mock orange is flowering this year. It has been very sparsely flowered for the past 3 years. It is also bowing right over and almost covering the Cistus incanus criticus with it’s lovely pale purple/pink flowers.

Over on the right side of the lawn the Cistus pulverulentus ‘Sunset’, it’s flowers almost match those of the Dianthus ‘Dianna’ planted at the side.
They must love all the moisture they are getting.

Under the Copper beech, the hardy geraniums are weaving a carpet of beautiful colour..

The bees are busy buzzing in and out of the Digitalis. I do hope they visit my runner beans too.

Down by the pond the Astilbe are a super red and the plants in the rockery are bursting with flower.

The pink poppies are always a couple of weeks later than the red ones and the first penstemons are coming into flower. The Heuchera’s have welcomed the rain I think because they are sending up lots of flowering stalks.

I sowed some lupin seed late in the year 2017 and I am so pleased that I have 2 white ones and a lovely blue and white one from the plants so far. I am hoping for a nice red one…

Time will tell …
At last the sun has broken through so I am off up the garden to take another look around. Plenty of roses and peony’s to steak up.

Oh and before I go here’s a pic of the self set poppies the birds first brought to my garden some years ago. they now pop up every year and I love the colour.

Lovely blog HB. My favourite is the coral pink penstemon and of course Sarah Bernhardt. Bit fed up with all the rain now. I am used to seeing all your gardens in sunshine!

The garden looks lovely even before the sunshine. I have one of the original type Peonies which is long past flowering, they last so little time! The rockery looks good, some really nice plants, would love to see the full rockery, it's an on-going project here I hope to finish this year! All my poor plants still in pots.
