The Hollies NGS open garden.

This garden was our final garden visit in Barlborough. As we walked down the long driveway toward the house
we were pleasantly surprised to find that the owners had planted fruit trees and bushes all the way down the right hand side of the driveway. We thought it was such a great idea to utilize the space in this way. We found red and black current bushes, apple trees, pear trees, gooseberry bushes, raspberries, all so healthy and productive. I wish I had taken a photo looking down the drive, these photo’s don’t show the length of the border.

Towards the end of the driveway we find raised beds filled with lots of vegetables and greens.

Here the driveway opens up into a lovely area by the house….

….and to our left we find colourful planters and border around a lawned area.

..and stepping onto the lawn we find a fantastic hanging basket with flowers that cascade down to mingle with the hardy geranium below.

Isn’t it a beautiful sight….

Turning towards the house I loved the tall planters..

….and this fabulous stained glass window. Perfect for a home surrounded on two sides by fields, as this one is.

To the side of the house in this shady area we find lovely shade loving shrubs, ferns and hostas.

…exchanged a few words with this young man…

Then on round the corner for a welcome cup of tea and a very nice slice of cake which we ate sitting here on the blue seat. At this point the battery on my camera ran out and unfortunately I couldn’t get photos of the planters and plants around the courtyard.

What a very pleasant, enjoyable afternoon we had and this was the perfect place to relax before we headed home with all sorts of ideas for my garden.

Glad you had a pleasant visit. New ideas is one of the benefits of Garden visits, but leads to more hard work at home.

Yes, I've decided the border up the side of the slope lawn has got to be sorted once and for all this winter. T had better get his chainsaw and hedge trimmers oiled....

Sound like a job for a man with a tool.

I like the tree in the picture with the pots. Is it a willow?
Nice series of gardens Homebird. Each of them so very different.

Such a novel idea to plant those fruits along the side of the drive ... and the hanging basket is incredible!

Yes the tree near the pots is a twisted willow which we purchased from Springbank nursery in Barlborough - opposite the Dusty Miller pub.

An unusual garden with a lot going on, liked the planters by the door....lovely to be surrounded by fields instead of houses, sheds and carports lol

Thanks very much Thehollies for naming the tree for us. Spring bank is a good little nursery and we have very many plants in our garden that came from there. It was a real pleasure to visit your garden and I was upset that the battery went down and I didn't have my phone for back up. I loved the courtyard and wanted more photos to chose from for the blog. As it was I have had to make do with the few I did manage to get. I look forward to visiting again next year.

There will be another chance to have a look round the garden at The Hollies later in the year, as on 30th September we are hosting a Macmillan coffee morning from 10.00am onwards.
The garden will of course look very different from the July opening but rest assured tea & cake (homemade & lots of it) will be available again at The Cool Cafe.
Hope you can make it.

That would be good, thanks for letting me know. It's so good of you to do all these things for charities. It's a lot of work for you.

If you want to take a look at a photo of what the Hollies looked like when we first saw it in 2004 then do have a look on the members page, as I have posted a new photo.
