Drought?.......What drought?

Well knowing that we wouldnt be able to use our hose all summer, I couldnt bear the thought of losing my plants. So I investigated, online, some self watering drip systems. I found one that I liked and decided to buy it and then I would be able to relax a little and let my new system do its work and would save me many a back breaking trip down the garden and would save water too as this system uses much less water than a sprinkler.

Well it arrived this week, very neat, tidy also tiny too and looks easy to fix up, everything is included in the pack and I did order an extra 10m length of drip-type hose so it reaches further down through my border, the kit also contains hooks to keep the hose still on the earth and there are lengths of non-drip hose too so you can reach the tap and not waste water. This system by the way is allowed during a drought.
Well I went out in between showers today to pop a plant in the border and dug into a space that I could find and………

One spade depth down I hit water and my soil is really squidgy, just like pudding :~(
Do you think I have purchased a ‘white elephant’ with my super duper drought beater water system???? Lol

When the weather is really dry in August, you'll be so glad you have the drip, drip system :o)

But are you sure you didn't just buy a lot of liquorice ? ;o) x

Up near my house, the same thing happens but halfway down the garden I have planted out some more plants as its been fine today and my ground was quite dry a full spade depth, considering the amount of rain we had yesterday I was shocked it had dried out so quickly, further down past the first g`house its like a sponge, no wonder I get confused..
Hang onto it G`mage you might need it in October, lol...

As others have said, the time will come where you will be using it, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Oh Crissie why??
Thanks all, I will keep it, unless it is liquorice which I would scoff quite happily, TT. . I did contemplate sending it back but think i will just wait til the hottest August we have ever had !! Lol
Lincs. my garden is like that all the way along, I only know because I was trying to put a plant in.
Hywel if I keep this for 7 years I would have forgotten all about it ! Lol
Lil, that thought did cross my mind, it usually happens when we get our table and chairs out the garage to put in the garden, then it rains and rains......

LOL it yuk ages to sort it out then it got tangled ...and other half tied it in wrong place ... Kept falling out of pots ... Prob better in garden haha.

Think it will be ok. in the border dont you? What you needed was the little brackets that hold the piping, you push them into the soil, a friend of mine has it in his greenhouse and he rates it highly.

12 Jun, 2012

You keep hold of it, because if you get rid of it, you know what will happen lol

12 Jun, 2012

Dd. yes, the rain might stop!!! Its been too much hasnt it?

13 Jun, 2012

I'm investing in some of this liquorice too...just as soon as the rain stops!

I'll do deep and meaningful, Gm...

Can I ask where you got all the liquorice and attachments? They've got the hose here, but larger gauge, I think...more like rigatoni, really and none of the bits...

13 Jun, 2012

Your welcome. You can buy a kit and any extras you think you might need!

13 Jun, 2012

And it's not too dear, either! :)

13 Jun, 2012

No, thought it was a good price, tip= if ordering, get all the bits you require and then you only pay one postage!!

13 Jun, 2012

My son bought it last year and said its was brilliant, I`ve got all my dads out of his garden but our outside tap is in the front garden, I`d need loads of extra piping to even contemplate using it here..
Not a shop near here but I love liquorice and now have a yearning, lol...

13 Jun, 2012

Oh Lincs, we do go off on a tangent dont we!! Shame you can't fix it up, could you have a new tap put in or would that be too expensive?

13 Jun, 2012

I've just bought a similar system and it's still sitting in its box!

13 Jun, 2012

Lol, Lijemc, just like mine, BUT we might still need them yet!

14 Jun, 2012
