Polygala myrtifolia

meanie

By Meanie

Polygala myrtifolia (Polygala Myrtifolia)

This is now sunk in the ground in its pot. It survived last winter outdoors, but is rather frost burnt. So it's nice to see it in bloom.

Got it at work. Can't memorise it's name, lol. Glad it survived:)

I'm surprised that it survived!

I very nearly bought one recently...but was put off by Monsieur B because of its lack of hardiness...

Just how bad a winter can it take, Meanie?

It was in a very sheltered spot of a garden that recorded -12°c, so I would guess -5 to -7°c. Really impressive in my eyes.

Hmm...thanks Meanie...I might have to go back and get it and give it a go, then...

I'll just have to be careful where I plant it...

Do as I'm doing with it now - sink it into the ground in a plastic pot and lift for the winter. Frost free garage is good enough for the worst spells.

Excellent idea!

I'm hoping to get a little greenhouse later...so I've already started keeping things in plastic pots and hiding them in nicer ones.

Thanks SL!

I've sunk Abutilon, Albizia and my Sutherlandia too Karen. I'll also be sinking a couple of Iochroma later too.

It's looking good!

Some of the leaves are badly frost burnt Delonix, but it did well to survive!

It's a very hardy shrub. I like the Polygala species native to Baja California. It grows to a tree and has brighter colored flowers.
