Passiflora alata (Passiflora alata)

Have to be honest and admit to having bought this into the house now.

The trouble is that I have four tender Passiflora to over-winter Roy. I'll take a cutting from this next year and it'll have to take its chances in the g/house next winter.

That is so beautiful, shame we cannot grow these outdoors.

stunning what a beauty:))))

Thanks DD and Mark!
It's easier to bloom than P.quadrangularis but marginally less spectacular.

Not as good as the one at OBG yesterday, but I'm still rather pleased with it!

It is always best not to risk a treasured plant not surviving the winter months Meanie.

It is! I'm lucky enough to have got a couple of wee plants from Dr.Maurizio. One is one of his hybrids - P.Caprice.............

The other is another hybrid - P.Manta...................

Is it getting too cold for it outside?

24 Oct, 2013

Too cold in the summer! Seems to do best under glass here.............

That's strange! Passion fruit vines really don't like a lot of heat. Most are native to the higher elevations of the tropics.

It's generally accepted that P.alata and quadrangularis need to be under glass here.
Did you check out the two hybrids in the post above yours?

24 Oct, 2013

It looks pretty impressive to me! How long have you had this plant Meanie?

25 Oct, 2013

18 months PT. It was just a small cutting.

26 Oct, 2013

Yes, I looked at them. I guess they don't impress me so much because so many hybrids are very commonly grown in California.

You notice I've never posted a photo of a passion flower on GoY...and my across-the-street neighbor has 4 varieties growing on their very long fence.

About time that you posted some then!

26 Oct, 2013

Actually, I think I have posted a few photos of passion fruit flowers in the past.

I love the fruit...and get a lot from my neighbor.
