Hi HB I've been to Japan and they use stones and patterns in their gardens.

I've not seen any authentic Chinese gardens but they might use stones as well HB.
The Japanese way of gardening is amazing to see. Everything in miniature. They rake the stones in patterned ridges, usually incorporating a few large boulders there as well. I suppose they garden in a small way because of the lack of ground space.
