Two Army helicopters circled about 10 times very low over our house tonight. Believed to be on Olympic security training?

Hmmmm. The few times this type of thing has happened here, I always feel unsettled by it.

22 May, 2012

I felt quite safe, thinking that they are training to protect London/South east in the event of a threat

22 May, 2012

Not so much feeling unsafe as it is about leading me to think of people where this sort of scene is commonplace or worse yet, reason to be fearful of them.

22 May, 2012

They've probably just heard about your lovely garden and just wanted to see it..... :D

22 May, 2012

Well that's a shame they didnt land then, as there is some digging to do and 3 felled trees that need moving SW.

A common practice here, if it isn't the police, it is the air sea rescue the noise is tremendous, then we have the lovely bird like gliders, and the acrobatic little bi-planes doing their routines before the local shows, all happens here lol

We dont get much excitement here at all usually but the Olympic torch is passing this way.

These things don't half startle you :o( The low flying jets we get here are rediculous. They SCREAM through the air, and sometimes I think they're going to crash into the roof. They're very frightening.

I miss the Harriers, used to love to see them exercising but the army now has Cottesmore and Luffenham, both have new names and Wittering is very quiet now as well, thats progress I guess, the torch is coming through here as well Denise and the Queen is coming to the town and then visiting Burghley, so we`ll be getting extra security checks as well....

Hi Lincslass. I remember the Victor bombers flying from Cottesmore or Wittering and using the Seaton-Harringworth viaduct as a practice target...they used to fly very low over the house and then go even lower over the viaduct....and they were VERY LOUD!!!.

As the cros flies we're not far from east midlands airport and although not under a flightpath do get some activity. The very best was Concord....it sounded so different to anything else....and was suprisingly small. The airambulance is based at ema and I think the police heli.
My real gripe are the ' flying lawnmowers' aka powered hang gliders....

23 May, 2012

I had the poolice helicopters flying round and round where I live..not sure why

23 May, 2012

We are not on a flight path so apart from helicopters and light aircraft we see very little - so quiet here.

Mind out taking photos, D...they might mistake you for a ground to air missile person...

...mind you, that might solve your digging problems lol! ;)))

23 May, 2012

I never thought of that KF, lets hope I dont end up in Jail.

23 May, 2012

Yes - that would never do!! ;)

23 May, 2012

I would mind if I was carted off in ones of these monsters though lol

23 May, 2012

It might be worth risking a case of 'mistaken identity'...lol!

23 May, 2012

lol

23 May, 2012

sick of the olympics already, must be costing us a fortune and all the disruption along with it to, i will be glad when its over haha, sorry Denise moan over lol

23 May, 2012

I was against it when Blair & Co e first came up with the idea......

I truly believe it should be completly countrywide not just the capital and the ticket sales........

23 May, 2012

I think that I would feel exactly the same as you, two, do if I was there...

23 May, 2012

I agree Sanbaz/Pam I am so not into it, all that money could have been much better spent.
My daughter was worried about living in East London a short walk from the arena over the six weeks of the games, she had a secure gated flat but its the streets at night that worried her, so she has moved flats to get further away from it.

23 May, 2012

i really dont blame your daughter for moving away Denise, all this talk about army etc is inviting trouble i think, if they didnt make such a big issue it would be ok.
i feel for people who live in the area having to travel to work etc with all the transport traffic and people etc, i would hate it. feels like its on 6 months not 6 weeks :o((

23 May, 2012

They have been making life difficult traffic wise for weeks now, as every weekend they are practising on the routes.

How things can change having the Weekend from hell!
My daughter took these photos as she was at home having been very ill for 3 weeks with a bad cough and breathing difficulties, she has seen 4 GP’s in that time and last Wednesday the latest GP said she was fit to fly to Norway on Friday morning.
So back to her London flat on Thursday but after a terrible night she felt so ill she made her boyfriend go to Norway without her. She then phoned us at 08.30 to say she would be back home on the 09.45 train. To cut a long story short she never made it.
You can imagine our worry when we could not contact her for over 3 hours! I was just about to phone the police when we were informed she had collapsed in the street and was taken to a Teaching Hospital in London. She has pneumonia and at 26 that is very worrying, but at least now she is in the best place in their critical care and is responding to the right treatment at long last.

OMG! That was a dreadful three hours, Denise, for both your daughter and you! I wish her well and really hope that she continues to recover and get well again soon... x
