'Countryfile' is watched by thousands - I wonder how many

thought the item on Potatoes totally wrong ? This supposedly wonderful farmer had 2 expensive tractors (paid for by EU Grant money because the profit on potatoes would have not have covered their cost) going up and down an enormous pristine field. The hedges had obviously been torn up preventing use by nesting birds. With no sign of insects the birds had moved elsewhere. No insects no
pollination of food crops.
No mention of crop rotation to prevent Blight.
His enormous crop showed no sign of blemish. His field showed no sign of weed growth. The boundaries showed no sign of manure heaps.
This man is obviously using chemical weed killers in the winter, chemical fertilisers, chemical slug bait, chemical sprays to prevent blight.
The message is clear.
If you have a bit of ground, grow your own Potatoes and stay healthy !

There is also the point that seed potatoes should be moved around the UK every year to prevent Blight which was the cause of the Irish Potato Famine and the deaths of thousands of people from starvation.
The presenter grew up on a farm. He should know about growing potatoes.
If this farmer is resowing seed from his own previous year
potato crop he must be using more chemicals to prevent Blight.
If he is importing seed potatoes from Scotland, which is what we do, it must cost him a fortune at the prices we pay.
Doesnt make sense. All wrong.
