Captain's Blog (2) Beginning to get "Ship-shape"

17 March.

It being fair weather at the weekend, we managed to get quite a bit of time in the garden, moving containers, transplanting some plants to new positions, and trying out some ideas for our “pirates” themed garden.

We lifted all the decking from the end of the garden (for use elsewhere), to expose the gravel and pebbles underneath. We plan to have a “beach” area here, with play sand, seashells, etc. Our grasses should fit in well here, with some of the cordylines and phormiums.

The plants have been temprarily potted up so that we can move them around until we find the best planting positions. The metal treasure chest we got from GOyer Madperth (Marie) was brought outside and placed in position. We quite like its bright colours, but it will need some weather-proofing. I could give it a few coats of clear varnish, but am thinking of painting it black and gold with exterior metalwork paints, which would, I think, off-set the plants which will be grown in it.

We have also started some “ship-building”., transforming our former “chocolate meadow” raised bed into a ship-shaped “multi-planter”.

The “shipyard”

Still a long way to go with this, but it is very good fun, of course. When she’s finished, we have decided to name her the “P.S. Capt. Kiddin’”, as a play of words referring to William Kidd (real pirate) and our own fooling-around/pretending.

“Time for a break”

Aharrrrr!!! Looks like I were a tad too ‘eavy-’anded wi’ the ol’ saw?

:-))

Just noticed this is your 50th blog so you need 50 pieces of gold in that trunk, better start looking through your 'bling' or xmas chocolate coins . . . .

Thanks, all.

The last pic is a bit of a "cheat" - taken last year at a theme park, lol!

I knew I could count on you, Gee, for crows, lol!

Thanks, Sk, I've seen the treasure island kids' sets here in garden centres.

Could arrange for some easter chocolate doubloons, megan. :-)

Might steer the Capt. Kiddin to the nearest port (or rum, for that matter), Lincslass. :-)

Right now, my ship-to-shore wireless (home internet) has crashed on the rocks, so will be back when I can.
