Karen, I just took a look at your very interesting and informative account of your visit. I shall read more about the 'rags-to-riches' chap tomorrow and must say it looks to have some amazing history. Thanks so much for this ... bet the dogs are happy to have you back!

Thanks for sharing the gardens Karen, it jogged my memory from when I visited a few years back, and it seems the same items caught your eyes as well, fairies and dandelion clocks

Karen this took me right back - I used to live in a flat in Newcastle under Lyme and Trentham was a very popular place locally. I think it was in the ballroom there that I danced to Acker Bilk and his band - those were the days!
(Or it many have been Kenny Ball - one played in Stoke and one inTrentham and I can't remember which now...)

Sorry couldn't get into the link for want of an acceptable password. Is the swimming pool still functioning?

Thanks everyone! Davey, I did get your comment, thank you! I replied as well I think. ;) Stera, you shouldn't need a password unless you are trying to access your own blog. I'll have a look at that. Sadly the swimming pool has been demolished, I read about it on a board. You have jogged my memories too...dancing all night to Kenny Ball at St Catherine's College, Cambridge with my boyfriend at 18 and lining up for breakfast in the dining hall ...still in our finery at 6am and eating my first Kedgeree...yum. Them were t'days! :)

Karen - do you remember the March of the Siamese Children? He seemed to play that a lot.(Or perhaps it was me that played the record a lot, lol) Lots of nostalgia there!

Thank you for sharing, Karen. Very beautiful pictures and I thoroughly enjoyed the narrative too. I’ll go back in and have a look at some of your other pics and information later. Lots of other very interesting stuff!

I never saw the film Karen so i don't know what the original was like. His version is the only one I heard...but it was certainly trad jazz.
