Preparing for Summer in Camellia Corner

Camellia Corner last week -
Generally, I find that whatever I do in the garden is in preparation for the opposite season to where I am. And as it’s now Mid-Winter, today I am preparing for Mid-Summer! I’ve been out in the cold wind, painting my metal table and chair. I used Hammerite ‘Straight to Rust’ paint, and applied a stippled coat to get a ‘verdigris’ type of effect rather than full coverage. Not fashionable nowadays, but I like it. I put a coat on the metalwork mirror to match, and Scott hung the Robin’s Nest ‘Teapot’ up for me. Last week I pruned and tied in the climbing rose ‘Iceberg’ on the Arch and moved my Camellia ‘Night Rider’ to this corner as it was getting far too much morning sun where it was before. It has beautiful dark red blooms -
In it’s place at the pod is now a Viburnum Tinus which was in a pot on the patio. There won’t be any flowers on the Camellia this year, but hopefully now it’s in a better spot, we will get some next year. The other bigger Camellia in the planter is ETR Carlyon which hasn’t given my many flowers at all since we moved it here, but it does have some flower buds on at the moment, so hopefully this spring…
When you think about it, I was actually preparing for Spring with the nesting Teapot, Summer with the table and chair and the rose pruning, and next spring too by moving the Camellia! Well, ‘they’ say that it’s essential for good mental health to have something to look forward to, and Gardening certainly gives me plenty of that!

I managed 3 hrs weeding today but as you say a bit chilly. I was too warm with my fleece on but too cold without it.

Lovely corner K... Even though the colour is out of favour, I still like it.Always gives a cheer even on the coldest of days. Do like the decorative plaque on the wall.

Great Karen, it's good to get outdoors. It's been windy but warmer here so I've sent out all day.

Wish I can grow these - too cold. You have a nice selection.

Love nooks and crannies in a garden. There you have another coffee/relaxing corner, Karen.
We have done nothing in the garden. Fortunately it is a Spring garden with lots of shrubs so there is very little maintenance there. OH has planted some bulbs . Camellias are popping out all over. Some were out before the little snow we had. Am always surprised to see these shrubs blooming in very cold weather, though I shouldn't be. Must take some photos.

Thanks everyone. Eirlys, they are gorgeous aren't they...especially the early flowering kinds. I haven't got any in flower at the moment, but later on I think I will have a few flowers. :) Would love to see yours :)

Who cares what paint effects are in fashion? I'm sure we'll all agree that its what you like that matters Your choice looks just right in that corner, fashion or not!

I agree Stera. The table and chair are a kind of victoriana style, so the verdigris suits them I think. :)

Great colours to those Camelias.

I love the colour you’ve chosen for your garden chair and table. Very pretty Karen.
The camellia’s both look lovely, I’ve one in a little corner at the back, bought it from the supermarket for £2.99, a few years back, it’s doing ok, seems “well”enough! Saying that, I get 2 flowers per year!!

Oh my goodness, you are a glutton for punishment Karen, saying that I do like the colour, I'm another who goes by what I like, not what is in fashion, that looks a lovely corner for relaxing with a drink whilst surveying your beautiful garden, that of course does mean sitting still for a while, lol....

Hubby was rubbing down one of the chairs today in readiness for oiling ready for the sun.
I have to wash the others as they are powder coated.
