A Little Gold Border Re-Vamping

This is the central section of my Golden Border this morning. And as you can see …toward the right there is a large Evergreen Viburnum cinnamomifolium with dull pinkish flower clusters. Where I sit in the living room it is right in my eye line.

That shrub was a bit of an ‘experiment’ to see if I could grow it this far North. I bought it and put it in my last garden and it’s never really been happy. I planted it here in this border before I’d decided to make a Golden Border. This year it has been its best ever, but the leaves are still all brown on the edges with frost. I don’t really like it, and it makes a break in my Golden Border. So….

Today it came out and I replaced it with two Euonymus, one bought and one moved from the drive-side border. There’s also a Canary Broom and three little Nemesias. It looks much better now and the Golden theme continues unbroken right along the whole border. I’m ever so excited to see what this border will be like in the summer! I also added three yellow Hollyhocks at the back today.

As you can see…its very much spring here, with daffodils still going strong. Starting to get a bit fed up of daffs now If I’m honest :) Could do with a bit of warmth.

it is looking good though, even if spring is hanging on - so nice to see it developing. Love that end of the garden.

Thanks Vjd. If its not pouring, I am either out there working, or planning my next job! It rained all morning so I sat plotting these alterations and researching various options on the computer. I fancied another golden conifer, but the nice ones are very pricey.

Your grass looks so green and sets off your golden border beautifully. It is looking so sunny even if the weather isn't.

You are so strong minded Karen, hoiking out things that aren't quite right. I can never bring myself to do it

That border is a real strong feature I love that its got a good mixture of foliage and grasses, height and texture I think this is what makes a one colour border work so well.

What a beautiful view to have from your livingroom! Your borders are lovely, ones that I can only aspire to and would love to be able to achieve something like that one day.

The border looks great, I like the idea of a golden border and the lawn looks very healthy and green unlike my dg worn version! Brilliant!

Thank you all! Crv...I got the idea of the golden border from a visit to Crathes Castle. They have a golden garden there and I just found being in it was so uplifting to my mood...I though I've got to try this! When we moved here that long border seemed like the perfect place for one. And I really love it!
