"Shake Yourself"

That’s what my Mother used to say to me when I was young and suffering from teenage lethargy, as you do. I heard her voice in my head this morning. A combination of being frustrated by the overcast and rainy weather which felt like it had been hanging like a pall over us for weeks, and 2 weeks of living with the discomfort a pinched nerve that affected my shoulder, arm and especially my sleep has left me at times like a bear with a sore head.

So I have been trying to divert myself. This morning I potted on 5 dahlias, 2 cannas and attempted to abrade seeds of Musa Sikkimensis and Canna brasiliensis. There were only 4 seeds in each packet and needless to say I ended up losing 25per cent of the cannas when it sprung out of my fingers and bounced off across the floor! The air was blue and I still haven’t discovered its whereabouts.

My OH has been trying to rationalise the g’house and to my delight unearthed cuttings of 2 of the 3 types of hebes that we had lost to the frost. So they are on the list for potting on. I have plenty of penstemon cuttings too, so I hope at least some of them will be the same types as the ones I have lost in the borders. So the picture is not all gloomy! :-)

Good news at the end of your blog Ange … well done you. Almost everyone I know has lost Hebes, we’re learning at the moment which plants need a back up.

Hope you’ll be feeling better soon.

Sorry to hear of your pinched nerve, that's very painful. I'm glad you were able to do something plant related though.
And glad also that you have cuttings of the hebes, that's why I always take cuttings of everything, you never know when they'll be needed.
I hope you find the seeds, or maybe you'll find they have germinated wherever they sprang to :)

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Phsio and exercises given today, so hopefully that will calm things down a bit.
Don't know how much luck I shall have with the seeds, but I thought it fun to try.

Oh that sounds painful, hope the physio has helped and it soon heals for you Ange, I feel your frustration as regards the seeds, I've lost many like that over the years, depending on where they landed as to whether I managed to see them growing, suffice to say I have had seedlings growing in some odd places....I'm no good at cuttings, never have been but its always good to hear of a success story .....

Thanks, Lincs. If there had been more seeds in the packet I wouldn't have been so annoyed. It's on my kitchen floor - somewhere!

I am sorry you have been struggling Ange, ( just catching up again!)
I have poly myalgia rhematica, so know what you have been going through, but hey..you have done quite a lot and the weather will improve!
Don't lose heart!

Outside in the sunshine yesterday, Rose, so happier with myself and the world generally : -) Sorry to hear of your discomfort.

Sorry Ange, I missed a lot recently. Work has kept me busy.
I'm sorry to hear about your trapped nerve, gosh they can be so draining and the pain is like toothache. I do hope things are improving? There are some yoga positions we do that help with pinched nerves in the body.
I had one back in August and the one session of physio at work helped so much. Hope you're feeling better this week? Hoping you're managing to get some sleep!
Your distraction of potting up etc has been positive, all looks good! Nice to hear you found some hebe cuttings too, fingers and crossed they thrive this year.

Thanks for your comments, Kate. I have some exercises given by the physio, and it's all improving but the lack of sleep is wearing. Can't sit up, can't lie down.. Definitely feeling my age!!
The hebes are all potted up and have caught up with seedlings etc, so keeping busy.
