Indoor plants.

We went to the supermarket today to refresh our fruit and veg. and naturally I came out with far more than intended. I picked up these 3 plants:
As usual, very little information provided except the names ‘calathea’ and ‘alocasia’.
The calatheas came with the blue pot holders for £7.99, the alocasia for £3.99 with no holder so I don’t think I did badly. I think I have calathea ornata, and a form of roseopicta (the striped one). I think the one in my own red pot is a form of alocasia amazonica.
They have all had a good drink and now I need to read up on their requirements. Wish me luck!
BTW, I hope you have all had a good Christmas.

They are pretty good pots with them being from a supermarket!

They are lovely. I think the Alocasia might be a variety called Polly.

Thanks for the info., Sheila. I think they'll all need more suitable compost to start with!
Thanks, Meadow. Lucky friend! I've had calatheas before and they got to a good size, but I wasn't diligent enough with my care. Must try harder.
I thought so, too, Rose. I'm shocked at the price of plant holders now. These were a bargain, I thought.
It may be, Sbg, but I don't know if the markings are distinctive enough.Time will tell. Glad yoy like them, anyway.

They are lovely plants. I'm glad you found some in good health, supermarkets don't always look after plants properly.
What's BTW ?

BTW means By the way Hywel … there are so many of these short forms these days - I don’t know how we’re supposed to know what they mean!

Thanks, Hywel - my laziness in not writing it all out!

Thanks Sheila and Ange ...
I don't think it's laziness, it's just the way things are now, being quicker and saving time if you do a lot of texting.
(but I don't so I'm not familiar with all the abbreviations)

Many bookstores sell a little paperback dictionary with all these texting shorts and their meaning. I picked up one a few years ago when I couldn’t figure out what “lol” meant.

I still don't know what 'LOL' means: laugh out loud or lots of love??

A lovely selection, I hope they thrive for you.

Smashing buys, Ange! Loving the choices, attractive leaf shapes and markings.
I'm not a skilled houseplant grower!!!!! I avoid buying now..although, the supermarkets have such interesting and attractive ones in store at the moment.

Great buys Ange. By coincidence, I’ve just been reading about house plants (double page spread in Modern Gardens magazine). Under Calathea, it says “You’ll need to find a consistently warm spot with bright but indirect light, moist compost in spring and summer, plus regular mistings. Your reward? Fabulous leaves!” I’m sure yours will thrive with your green fingers 🙂.
