I have been reading all the comments regarding the replacement of Toby for Monty Don on GW ..well done BBC another fine mess you have got in to, why do you never listen to public opinion?
ITV here is your chance to put on a rival program with Toby at the helm, so what are you waiting for?

Toby who! ? ;o)

14 Jan, 2011

Sorry I'm a Monty man !

14 Jan, 2011

Each to their own........

14 Jan, 2011

Not keen on either really lol

14 Jan, 2011

For the record, I dont like Monty Don.

14 Jan, 2011

I stopped watching TV when we went digital - it all got too complicated and the programmes are so poor, I just found other things to do.

14 Jan, 2011

sorry dont like monty, a bit boring,

14 Jan, 2011

Tobys in need of a good twating!, and Montys too far up his own ar*e! lol!! :o)))

14 Jan, 2011

I like Monty! I quite like Toby too but found the format/content of the programme boring so stopped watching. I don't think I would watch an ITV programme as I get fed up with all the advertisements.

14 Jan, 2011

I don't like Monty don. He can't dig a hole in the ground. He just throws the spade in and huffs and puffs.
Have you seen him trying to dig the ground ? He's hopeless :o(
Please will someone teach him how to use a spade.
And I find him rather arogant. And Alan Titchmarsh is worse :o(((
Carol Klein is BRILLIANT but I wish she'd roll her sleves up lol instead of getting them all in the mud. But I think she's the best gardening presenter I've ever seen.

14 Jan, 2011

Last year, on the ITV weekday programme "This Morning"
Diarmuid Gavin presented some surprisingly good little "gardening shows" ... proper gardening .. not weird designs...

... but I can't always understand his accent...Lol.

... and yes Hywel.... Carol Klein is fantastic....:o)))))))

14 Jan, 2011

I like Carol Hywel, but it sounds like you've never seen either Geoff Hamilton or Roy Lancaster in action....both head and shoulders above the rest! including Alan Titmash!! lol :o)

14 Jan, 2011

Dotty ... are you hoping for 645 comments ? ;o)

14 Jan, 2011

Yes I've seen those two Bluespruce. I'd forgotten about them. One is dead and the other is never heard of these days. They were also better than Monty and Alan :o)

14 Jan, 2011

Sorry, I don't like Carol - I find her irritatingly over enthusiastic - good job we're not all the same isn't it?

14 Jan, 2011

It would be boring lol

14 Jan, 2011

i like Carol Klein but do miss Geoff Hamilton...a proper gardener!

14 Jan, 2011

Same here Elsiemay much prefer those two, dont like Monty either .....

14 Jan, 2011

Carol Klein wins it for me...very practical...hands on and I love her enthusiasm.

14 Jan, 2011

A definite no to Monty Don, Toby`s way of presenting made me think I was watching childrens programmes, I do like Diarmud, although I`m not keen when he fills a garden with aluminium and steel, Carol is very exuberant but the fact that she gets stuck in and dirty appeals to me, after all so do I.
I do like Mr T but it would probably cost too much to get him back and I certainly don`t want to give aunty another reason to up the licence fee, oh Joe swift is good and the one who did the Flying gardener, cannot think of his name at present.. Geoff Hamilton a brilliant gardener but can`t have him in this world........

14 Jan, 2011

I didn't mind Monty, but Toby just made me switch off...such a boring format.. I like Carol,..and her mucky hands and clothes....Isn't this how we all get when gardening? I do.I usually roll my sleeves up,when its far too late .Lol.
I think most of us liked Geoff Hamilton, and Roy Lancaster too...

14 Jan, 2011

Lincslass,is it Chris Beardshaw you are thinking about...Oh,yes...great gardener..and a looker,too..:o)

14 Jan, 2011

I always roll my sleeves up whatever I'm doing. I hate sleves and cuffs getting in the way. Maybe it's because I have to be careful when I use my pottery wheel. Loose sleves and cuffs can get caught in things and cause accidents.
It's about 'health and safety' lol :o)
And I find it's uncomfortable aswell

14 Jan, 2011

The lady on the one show has to be the best, what's her name

lol

14 Jan, 2011

Thanks Bloomer thats him..

14 Jan, 2011

Lady on the One Show ?
Alex Jones is good with spaghetti ;o) lol.

... but I think you mean Christine Walkden...

14 Jan, 2011

That's the one, Christine she's happy lady

14 Jan, 2011

cos
Cos

My favorite gardening presenter was Geoffrey Smith. I cannot commend on today's presenters as I do not watch BBC's gardening world any longer. Unfortunately there is a time conflict with one of my favorable programs in my native language and my existing recorder is not a multiple recorder and can only record the program I am watching. I miss it a lot.

14 Jan, 2011

Hi Cos ..
... that's a pity the two TV shows are broadcast at the same time...
... could you watch Gardeners' World on BBC iplayer ?

14 Jan, 2011

As a matter of interest Dotty, what was the ratio of opinion for Toby/Monty?
I certainly shan't watch Monty and I thought it wasn't Toby that was wrong with GW but the format. I agree Bloomer, Chris Beardshaw would be highly watchable in more ways than one! :o))

14 Jan, 2011

I love the way this subject always gets us all going! I love Alan and Carol and I don't mind the ballerina from time to time either.....;) Monty...well, I like his philosophy, but not alltogether sure about his presentation style...I just love Hywel's comments about his hole digging though...Hywel, you made me laugh again!! :))

14 Jan, 2011

lol I'm pleased about that Karen :o)) It's nice to give someone a laugh.

14 Jan, 2011

Cheers Hywel! :))

14 Jan, 2011

I love Christine Walkden too,she has no airs and graces, and just so natural..I love her next door neighbour as well,,and their competitive banter..

14 Jan, 2011

I simply love Monty, hated Tony, sorry for strong words, also delighted Carol Klein has a nice prog. too. Couldnt stand Alice on GW. so I just didnt watch it, can't wait now to Friday nights as they used to be.

14 Jan, 2011

Oh yes I always liked Christine and her neighbours, made me feel better when I saw the bare patches on her lawns, courtesy of her dog.......

14 Jan, 2011

Lily.....Toby won hands down, or should I say trowel down lol Very interesting comments, personally I liked Alan T he was down to earth (sorry) amusing and easy on the eye OH and I gained a great deal of gardening knowledge from him, we also liked G Hamiliton, and G Smith, Carol is my kind of gardener scruffy (did you see her tonight ?) no gloves, and just mad about plants, although her garden would not suit me, not enough form and structure, it is wonderful and very natural.
Toby is a very experienced gardener, and it was not his fault the program was boring to some of us, it was the format..........many younger viewers gained a great deal from him and his team, and he has received a huge amount of support from them.
Monty is basically a veg man, and if the whole of the program revolves around growing veg, I shall be switching over to something else, I dont dislike the man, but he does not inspire me, Alan T did, I couldnt wait to try some of his ideas.
Chris B is ok but after watching him on Chelsea last year, he was very over the top.
Rachel is fine by me, and also Christine, bless her.
So we will all have to wait and see how GW with mundane Monty goes.....wont we?
Thanks for your comments.

15 Jan, 2011

I'm going to chuck one into this,............ How about ..........and I can only think of 2 good reasons at the moment, CHARLIE DIMMOCK

15 Jan, 2011

Monty, mundane !!!! Never. :~(

15 Jan, 2011

Mine would be Chris Beardshaw too he has a lovely manner and can dig and I am a member of his and Terry Walton gardening site, so what else can I say. lol. I do feel sorry though for new commers that are young, which they have to start some where and learn experience of character and gardening ways, bit like the pop business, which Simon Cowel has distroyed, we either get materialistic so called singers or the old ones, which prevents new music comming through.

15 Jan, 2011

I've been watching Carol Klein on BBC on Friday evening she is in her own garden, i'm really enjoying watching her.

15 Jan, 2011

I agree totally with DD about Carol's garden. I love it, but I would never want to garden in it....not enough form and structure and in the winter it looks so bare. A bit of lawn, even if it's only for walking around on, makes a big difference, and a few evergreens too. I do love Carol though AND Chris Beardshaw, but again I have to agree with Dotty....I could always get inspiration and ideas from AT which I haven't had since he left. Ah well, perhaps it's because I've reached a certain level of knowledge and now i'm harder to inspire! We shall see when GW returns.....:))

15 Jan, 2011

I seem to have missed out somewhere! Is Monty coming back to head up GW once again? If so I'll be very pleased, I liked him more than Toby. I just wish they would stick to the 1 hour format & stop messing around with it!

I missed Carol this Friday but I shall watch her on the BBC iPlayer - possibly tomorrow. I really love her down to earth manner & her enthusiasm!

I've seen Christina a few times but I feel ambiguous about her - I can't decide whether or not I like her!

As I was away in Spain for the better part of 30 years of my life I missed many of the great presenters like Geoff Hamilton, Roy Lancaster, etc. When I returned to the UK Alan Titmarch was coming to the end of his time.

15 Jan, 2011

Littlelegs....Charlie who? hope she has more support now that she is getting older lol
Karen I think you have hit the nail on the head.....harder to inspire that must be it.
Balcony I am pleased Monty has a couple of supporters lol.

18 Jan, 2011

the presenters titmarsh and before didn't 'dumb everything down to childsize bites--lancaster is an inspiration --so enthusiastic and knowledgable-- as was percy thrower ( I was young at the time but have some of his books) they're gardeners from the wellies up, the modern lot seem to want to be 'celebrity gardeners' with not a real grounding-- in the ground!!

19 Jan, 2011

The program still causes controversy after all these years.
Personally, I would prefer Channel 4 to bring back their excellent gardening program that featured Matthew Biggs and Roy Lancaster, and I believe, Carol Klein wearing blueyeans with white stitching!
Cant remember what it was called though....
As for G.W., I dont really mind who presents it as long as they change the format around. I want to look at other peoples gardens and plants, have guests on talking about their plants etc, plant profiles (on one genus or species of plant), planting tips from viewers, a recipe spot, plant and nature inspired poems and crafts, fun, laughter, photos....Oh just a minute: thats the GOY website!! No thanks, I will stick with GOY for all my preferences as none of the TV channels will ever be able to create anything as wonderful as this site and would never get any of you A list celebrities on!!

19 Jan, 2011

Geranium.....you have an excellent format there, are you up for the job? lol
Pam as you so rightly say the oldies were gardeners and not celebs.

19 Jan, 2011

I think Matthew Biggs and Roy Lancaster co-presented 'Garden Club' on C4 with Rebecca Pow. The C4 programme Carol was on was 'Garden Party'.

Byebye, Toby - won't miss you. Don't particularly like Monty Don but will give the new series a try as he is completely redeveloping part of his garden and developing new small areas - a bit like Geoff Hamilton.

Am really enjoying Carol's series as she's not quite so exuberant as she normally is.

Must say I like the sound of Geraniumdac's programme - would definitely watch that!!!

20 Jan, 2011

Hi Wagger good to see and hear from you....hope all is well with you and yours? I shall watch GW because it is a gardening program, to be fair to Monty he does write a god book.
I am enjoying Carol but is is over too quickly.

22 Jan, 2011

I haven't read any of his yet, Daisy - picked it up in the library and didn't get past the cover before putting it back! I often feel he tries to spread himself too thin - jewellery, gardening, cookery, social services (drug addict progs), garden travelling - just how much can any one person do justice to? (crikey, what a split infinitive!!!).

I agree Carol's prog is over too quickly so have recorded and watched them both twice already.

Me and mine? Distinctly average - still pulling the duvet over my head lots of mornings, lol.

23 Jan, 2011

I record too Wagger, I love the prog and like you have watched it twice now!!

23 Jan, 2011

Wagger I know how you feel.it is a real struggle to get up these days......the grandchildren are dropped with us two days a week at 7am, luckily OH is an early riser lol

24 Jan, 2011

Remember Stefan Buczacki??....He headed a gardening roadshow some years back, i loved it.....Geoff was my favourite...love AT and Monty, but Carol is my favourite at the moment...love her tv show, gardening tips and best of all seed sowing in her potting shed...Dont care for Chris B, Toby B, Roy L or Joe Swift.......:>)

24 Jan, 2011

Mot yes I do remember S.B. he was a very good presenter knew his stuff. Carol is certainly my favourite with AT close at her heels, although I was warming to Toby and I enjoyed Alys program about her garden too.(have been watching the repeats)

24 Jan, 2011

Only seven days to go!!!!!!

4 Mar, 2011

Lookin forward to having Monty in my front room again!!!! Lol.

4 Mar, 2011

Remember Dan 'don't speak to me, I'm upset because I didn't get a gold' Pearson? Don't think he's gone to Chelsea since, lol.

4 Mar, 2011

So next week Monty will be leading Gardener's World again? I must remember to turn the computer off & the TV on! LOL!

4 Mar, 2011

Balcony, you could record it, Lol.

4 Mar, 2011

Or see it on the BBC iPlayer!

4 Mar, 2011

Yes you could do that too, but dont miss it!!!! well you know what I mean!

4 Mar, 2011

OH tells me millions have been spent on Monty's garden......I hope he is having me on!! because I certainly wont watch him lol

4 Mar, 2011

I can't wait Dd, I love him.

5 Mar, 2011

GM each to their own.....of course I shall watch, after all it is a gardening program cannot afford to cut my nose off lol

5 Mar, 2011

Thats the main thing Dd, the gardening prog! I have missed the old format given by Monty and Alan, I hated the new style and just switched off.

6 Mar, 2011

I do so agree with you there GM.

8 Mar, 2011

Monty Don, top man, fits the BBC mould, easy to listen too and whilst the basic format may be a little dated, his presentation is much more informative on all levels than that pillock, Alan Titmush who comes over as shallow and much more concerned with light entertainment than horticulture.

10 Jun, 2011

Sorry, boring boring.... spends too much time with a wheelbarrow, loved his Italian gardens, but his at home is very uninspiring. Alan knows the job and has far more experience in gardening than Monty who was in the jewellery trade for years.
