The area looks great.A Banana will be fabulous but will need winter cover or keep it indoors over winter.A tree fern (Dicksonia antartica) would also look superb, but cover the crown with fleece during winter. You could add some Cannas but they need frost protection as well.Phormiums are great for height and structure and are quite tough.A good book is 'Exotic gardening for adventurous gardeners' by Christopher Lloyd. It is full of lovely ideas and superb photos.Hope this info helps.Best wishes and happy gardening.

Glad there are treefern fans out there. I bought one cheap, unwanted because one frond was twisted but all subsequent were good shape. More photos of its progress please.

Hi Dee,

Love the echeveria and how you've planted it up, I have a couple of these too, also flowering right now.

Keep on nicking ideas - that's the best way to show someone their idea was a good one in the first place!

My camera does that too but only with purple/blues...do you think it could be a red filter? I've had to use a photo programme to put the colour right. It has to be one of the prettiest clematis though...I love blue flowers.

Hi Youg daisy dee, I'm a bit too far away from your garden to have been snooping around - what a coincidence! and aren't they fab lilies? I think yours are perhaps a wee bit more orangey toward the centre of the petals - I might try and find a 'Vesuvius' for next year...hot hot hot!
