WHAT TO DO!!!!

Is this the weather we are to expect for the next however many years? hubs been on his 2weeks hols and all we have had is rain, we planned to go to the beech, BBQs in the garden, fun days, family days out! ive had the heating on 3 days this week.
Yesterday we went to Flamingoland, 13 of us. kids loved it (2 to 16 yrs old) but we came home soaked to the bone, the animals went into hiding and some of the rides went off, the one’s that didn’t were wet, if ya bum wasn’t already wet, it sure was after sitting on them. I even tipped the 3year old (by accident) into a huge dirty puddle, Stupid buggy lol..

Anyway,what to do.
Im seriously thinking of not doing much in the gardens next year, we planned to build a new shed, pergola etc, maybe see what survives in the greenhouse and plant them out, not buying more plants etc, then we can save up and have a holiday abroad, im really fed up with this awfull weather, as you all are too..
Yesterdays wet day out wasn’t cheap, £27.50 pp entrance, under 4s free, we said the 4 nearly 5year old was 3 and she burst into tears lol, she’s small for her age so we got away with it. 3 cars £40 petrol in each, food and drinks and not everthing was free once inside..
Im a bit fed up today, its cold and dull, on the bright side, the plants are still looking ok and seem to be coping with everchanging temps, i just can’t sit out with them :)))
Thanks for listening, from a really Fedup Dee X

Oh Dee, what to say to a world in turmoil?
You did make me laugh though, the wee one crying because it is so important to be nearly 5!!
I am wondering wether to dig up more of the garden and grow food!! And let there be an end to Tesco bags!!

I was thinking about growing more food Lulu, I used to grow cabbage, carrots, leaks, onions etc untill i turned my garden into what it is today, i miss those cabbages the most lol..

Hi Dee ...

For many reasons this "summer" seems to be a time of thought, reflection and change for a lot of people, both on GoY and other places...

I know I'm certainly feeling that way ... trying to make decisions ... possibly life-changing ones .. but meanwhile appreciating my garden and my pets ... and trying to get on with tasks despite the weather ...

I hope it helps you, knowing you're not the only one feeling that way ... maybe a little indecisive ... Lol.... xxx

Yeah Tt, it does'e help <3 Only we can change things in our life, me and hub have just been talking, after xmas we are going to save up for a holiday next year, get it booked and there's no going back :) the garden will be there long after us..
Im disheartened with the country we are living in, only yesterday i said to hub for the first time in my life, *I hate this country* and i felt sad, saying it....

Oh dear, so sorry for you and the family, its no fun when it rains on the holiday, and that was certainly an expensive day out. I can't understand these places putting their prices so high. Surely they would get more visitors if it was cheaper.

12 Aug, 2011

Dee...
There are still many wonderful places in the UK, and lovely people too... trouble is... the minority spoil it for the majority...

Hi Cinders :) We brought home with us a magazine with prices etc, to stay in a log cabin was about £1,350, thats without entrance fee into the parks, food etc, there's golf, fishing, interactive animal times, night time entertainment, restaurants etc all at extra cost which isn't cheap, and no guaranteed sun, the upside of the weather yesterday was, no huge queues for the rides!! The more popular, daring ride's had 1hour 40 mins expected waiting times as standard!!! so if it was sunny, can you imagine how much waiting around there was! Ooooh i went on the Twister, Straight up in the air in 0 point 2secs lol, coming down was worse was even faster, never again, i tell you lol..

12 Aug, 2011

Wow, sooner you than me on the twister ! You can quite see why so many people want to go abroad at those prices though. You need a fortune to take a family . Glad I dont have to worry about things like that any more.

I know Tt, its just the government, sitting in there gated homes with bodyguards, fiddling there expenses to boost there already massive paypackets, who are the rolemodels for the youth today! poor kids, i feel sorry for them, Not the looters mind or the mindless thugs, this country needs fixed Tt. but no,one's listening :(

OMG,listen to me, i need to do some gardening, to cheer myself up :)))

Oh dear youngdaisy, forget the garden for a short time and have a few cheap days out with the children. My daughter lived in Newcastle for a time and she was a member of the ramblers. She and her friends had a great time roaming all over the place for free and taking picnics with them. The beach is still exciting for the children if they can go rock pooling and just run around. You might shiver but the kids will enjoy themselves. A frisbee doesn't cost much but it is good fun as is cricket and football if you have the space. A day up at Keilder will allow the kids freedom and fresh air and space. You can even include the dogs. Take plenty of towels and warm jumpers to change in to when you get back to the car. Have a look at the link below. It gives information about water based activities. near Amble. She sailed there and although initially she did not have a boat of her own she was able to hire one for very little. She did not need to buy a boat until she moved south.
http://www.coquetshorebase.org.uk/clubs/clubs.html Courses start from as little as £15.00 a day but once you have the training there is so much more you can do. She and a work colleague used to go up to Keilder Dam and sail there every Friday afternoon. It opened up a whole new group of friends. I hope you will not need to go abroad with all the hassle that involves.

Sorry to hear about your wet day out Ydd ... the weather plays such an important part in the scheme of holidays & days out ... I've lost count of the holidays we've come home early from due to the poor weather ... from Norfolk down to to the West Country ... there are only so many times you can go to the cinema! ..... It's actually cheaper in the long run to enrol in the National Trust and visit the many homes & gardens they have ... take a packed lunch too and some cartons of squash ... can you tell we're cheapskates ... lol! ..... I hope you get a sunny & warm weekend ... :o)))

oh Daisy i'm sorry for your rotten holiday but if you look around no other country is much better it seems, I'll stick to the one I know!, and there are good things- think of the people who've been clearing up and in my city the age concern bus was burnt out by the yobs but 2 days later 1/2 the money for a new one has been donated--- its not all bad....

12 Aug, 2011

I know the weather is depressing at the mo and with the riots etc ...the sad thing is not being able to sit out and enjoy our gardens after all the hard work getting it ready for the so called summer:( Was talking to the kids the other day (aged 31,29 and 27) and they all said how they loved their holidays and childhood which was so lovely cos we didn't have much money but used to pack up lunch get off and go to the beach or the forest most days and it didn't cost a fortune and we went out in all weathers! it was lovely hearing them say that:) Gonna have a bet with you Daisy come spring next year you will be on here on this siete all enthusiatic showing us what you have planned for your all ready lovely garden lol!

I saw this blog when you first put it on Ydd, I daren`t even comment because I was right moody and would have depressed you even more.
I think its a combination all chucked into the same bag and passed on to us, weather, price rises except in ones pocket, and now the horrible goings on in our world at the moment.
Honestly if anyone wanted a row with me this morning I swear I`d have been delighted, lol, to make matters worse I also had to go shopping.
When I got back I went into my garden and worked a bit of it off, its been drizzling with rain most of today but not enough to stop me, it would have upset me though, if I`d had a day out planned with the grandchildren, hoping it doesn`t get any worse tonight as my grandson is having a camping party in his garden, four ten year old boys all sleeping in the garden in a tent, the mind boggles, lol. not sure what will happen if mr hedgehog has a wander near their tent....
Lots of folk are back into growing veg now, I`ve got a number of things tucked amongst my flowers this year

12 Aug, 2011

Hmm..Lincs, just wondering what you have tucked amongst your flowers..has your OH gone missing i wonder ?..lol

12 Aug, 2011

LOL, Joan, I thought similar! :o))))))

We got fed up with Britain long ago, YDD, hence the move to northern Spain. This region is still in the 20th Century - respect is shown to everyone by everyone; people help each other; coffee is between 1 and 2 euros a cup - AND is gorgeous!; food is brilliant - only around 10 euros for a three-course meal complete with wine or water (menu del dia); petrol is cheaper than in Britain (although it has risen since our move) - in fact, moving here was the best thing we've ever done. I know full well that we could not have this style of life on our pension if we'd stayed in Britain. We got fed up with the 'soaps' on TV before we left, so made a pact that we would not watch them ever again; we don't watch British news because it has been - and still is - depressing, AND ..... sorry everyone who's going rusty - the sun is blazing! The evenings are is warm and we sit on our balcony with our present guests and vino tinto well into the night watching the moon, stars and bats. I know it always has to rain somewhere, and no doubt I'll be moaning when Britain is sweltering and it's ME going rusty, but I certainly feel that for the last 5 years we've had the better deal. Hope things get better for you all in every way. :o)

Poor you Dee - in 2007 it rained all Summer here. You must be so depressed. Cabbages would certainly like your rain, I think growing veg is very satisfying, go for it.

I've photo's of me at Mablethorpe 50---(50?)-- years ago and its shorts and a cardi in quite a few-- and a gabardine mac in some.....

I know this weather is frustrating and i have had a week off and it rained 3 days grey and overcast the rest.
The cheepest way to great day's out buy a family ticket for the National Trust £78 for a family of 4-6 or less if its just 2 of you .
Go as many times as you like take a picnic and look at some wonderful gardens and when it rains go in the house and have a look round .
If you go 3 times it pays for it self and the rest hasnt cost you anything .And there are loads of places up where you are..:o)))
Great day's out cheep
