WARNING. Received this from our friend,

Just to alert you all that there is another con going on, received an email today from our friend who would have checked it out very carefully knowing him, it was from Homewatch Alert via Manchester Police. it read like this,

A man received a phone call from a delivery company saying he was going to make a delivery and would he be home in an hour, he said yes and an hour later the delivery turned up, a basket of flowers and a bottle of wine, there were no birthdays or anniverarys and the man asked who had sent it to him and his wife, the delivery man said it just says a card to follow, all sounded straight forward, the delivery man said being that there was wine he had to charge £3 for delivery with a signature to say the person who received it was over 18, the man took the money from his pocket and the driver said he was sorry he could only accept payment by card to be sure it was paid for. and that he did not pocket the money, the man then took his card from his wallet and did as asked, swiped his card put in his pin number and it printed him a receipt, the card that was being delivered never arrived, but a few days later he found £4.000 missing from his bank account, the driver had actually made a copy of his credit/debit card, the bank and police were informed and his cards put a stop to, apparently this is happening quite a lot in the Midlands area, it may be nothing but I just thought its best to be warned.

Thanks for this Vall. it makes you wonder just who you can trust these days so many scams around, tis is just deplorable!!

I think they would have got me too. Nasty thieving criminals. THanks for the warning!

31 Oct, 2012

I dont understand this. The thief could only take out £200 at a time at a cash point. How did he take out £4,000 in 'a few days.'

Just used the card to buy stuff over the internet I should think Diane. I once had two computers bought with my card...£1,000 in a one-er. Luckily the bank spotted it right away.

Thanks for relating this Yorkshire. It's good to be warned.
This door is NEVER opened to ANYONE, unless
1. There's a delivery expected, and I've been informed it's on the way
2. An appointment made in advance (even the gas meter reader)
3. The person is known e.g friend or relation.

Unless one of those criteria is met, I'm sorry but this door will not be opened.
It's the only thing to do. ... Sad that it's like that ...

very slick con, I would never use my card in such a random doorstep situation but I can see how it would catch folk out. Also no-one ever sends me flowers (sobs) so I would be immediatly suspicious.
Thanks for this info Yorkshire. Internet neighbourhood watch at its best. This is exactly the calibre of education we need to stay safe. Cheers.

Thank you for the warning, Yorkshire.

I'm glad I warned you all, if you think about it, it;s a very clever con, a basket of flowers btle wine, and a signature staing the person who received it was over 18, also a printed receipt for the money, like others said what a sad world.

It just makes you wonder what they will think of next doesn't it? Little wonder we are now such a distrusting nation..So sad for those who fall for this con..

Flori, we were only saying last night we could have got taken in by that, we have a lot of parcels delivered here because our neighbour works, and quite often we have to sign for them, we will be more wary next time,

Oh Dear! Does no-one think to make an honest living these days instead of preying on others? It tends to be the same here, too, unfortunately, although to date nothing quite so sophisticated as this scam. I'm turning into a crabby, suspicious paranoid old woman because of all this. I went into town for the first time in ages two days ago, and left much earlier than I'd intended, fed up and frightened by all the attention (some of it physical) from beggars and clip-board carriers every few steps. Most of them were younger, fitter and better dressed than I was, and I'd ended up losing it and shouting at them. I get quite rude with unexpected and unknown callers and the chain stays on the front door. It never used to be like this. Thanks for the warning, Val.
Bampy, I'd feel sorry for you if I didn't know you had a beautiful garden FULL of flowers - who would be so presumptuous as to SEND you any? ;o)
Take care, everyone.
