Just back from Germany

Hi everyone, we are just back from a wonderful two weeks holiday in Germany, first time we have done the railway holiday and it was brilliant, from Yorkshire we travelled to London staying in a Hotel overnight then catching the Euro Star from St. Pancras through to Brussels, then on to Cologne where we spent the night in another Hotel,we then travelled to the Harz Mountains, where we were due to stop for a few nights, passing through Goslar, Bad Harzburg, Torfhaus, Drei Annen Hohne, and on to Wernigrode,We went on the Harz Mountains Railway of which I have put a photo on of, we did get a couple of days off to do our own thing which was nice, we travelled on the steam train to Brocken which is 3,700ft up but unfortunately the weather was not good when we reached the top, we travelled to Hildesheim and Frankfurt and stayed on the River Rhine at a village called Assmannshausen, here we spent a day On the Rhine which was lovely, passing the Lorelei Rock going to Boppard and Rudesheim , here my husband took the cable car which he told me was wonderful, I have put some photo’s on and do hope you will enjoy looking at them and not getting too bored our last stop was the beautiful city of Heidelberg, we must have travelled hundreds of miles and it was well worth it, whilst I have been away I have received some private messages of which I will get round to replying, also some nice comments on my photo’s so I would just like to say thank you to all that commented.

Hallo yorkshire. I am pleased that you enjoyed your holiday in Germany and seeing all those lovely places, now you can understand why I have lived here for over 40 years, near Düsseldorf in a town called Wuppertal,I see that you didn´t go there, a pity, as our town has a lot to offer tourists. The main attraction here is the "Schwebebahn"...overhead railway, also we have a big zoo and 2 big shopping areas and is not far from other places to visit such as Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Bochum, Hattingen etc and the Rhine is only about a half hours drive from my home. BTW I originate from the county of Rutland....between Leicster and Peterborough. Aufwiedersehen..Roger.

Hi Yorkshire, loved the photoes. Have been to Germany myself this year, and travelled from Dannenberg (in the North) where we stayed for 2 weeks, all the way to the South, where we stayed for another 2 weeks in the beautiful mountains of the Berchtesgadener Land.As I'm from Bavaria myself,it is allways nice to hear, other people like the place which was my home for a long time. Thanks for shareing your great photoes!!!

Thanks Meanie, if you ever get the chance for a holiday in Germany I would recommend it, Angie, thanks for your comment, hope you had a great holiday also, we love Germany its so beautiful, not just the landscape but the buildings are unbelievable, Rogi, we were on a train and was told we might just be lucky enough to see the "Schwebebahn" overhead train but sadly we did not, we spent seven nights on the Rhine two years ago, travelled from Cologne to Mainz by boat and then back again, the scenery was breat taking, thank you and glad you enjoyed the blog

I have really enjoyed this blog, thank you. Don't you find that Germany is such a lovely country? We lived over there for seven years and were always amazed at how clean the streets always were. Our time there was short and we've always promised ouselves a trip back to old haunts...............maybe next year! ;-))
