Interesting stuff you are finding in your gardens... the only thing I have ever found is old rusty coffee cans.

Hi again Raquel,
Hope you had a nice holiday, We did!
I buy can pumpkin also and add spices, but I make my own pastry, the key for me is marble. Years ago my hubby bought me a big marble rolling board and pin. It works great!
Had to stop midway thru... someone had a kitchen emergency and I had to go help clean up.
Anyway the marble keeps it cool while you roll and I love it!
Bye now!

O, I think I made an error. I wasn't really paying close attention and thought you were the Lori in Canada. My mistake, what zone are you there in Manchester. I think it is probably close to mine here in Atlanta. Zone 7?

Save the Lettuce!
Sounds like something you would read on a campaign sign.lol I am making similar efforts to get my lettuce and spinach etc. seedlings to grow in my new poly greenhouse. but the temps here seem to be regulating a little so fingers crossed.
Not to say that my cold is anywhere near yours Lori, BRRR! I don't think I could stand it. Keep warm!

I was a cashier myself at a DIY chain store here in the states, I don't know if you know it, called "Home Depot". When they hired me I didn't know much at all about the stock. I took time to learn what we had and where it was in the big store. Some customers even helped with this when I was new. So I guess some responsibility does have to go to the individual employee because if you want to learn about the stock, you can, most just can't be bothered to make the effort!
The company even provided videos about the different depts and even some on how to do certain things that customers buy and want to do, like repair toilets, lay tile, hang wallpaper etc. You just had to watch them and learn, most cashiers I worked with didn't bother. I thought I was interesting and I learned a LOT!

Hi Mike,
Squash pie sounds interesting. Is that a traditional New England dish? I really like Butternut squash but have never had any others.
Hope you had a nice Turkey day, and best wishes!

I can answer that one for you Hywel.
It is because they will work for less, the stores don't want to pay as much as an experienced and knowledgable person would be paid. I have just quit asking for help and advice in stores. I do research ahead online and already know what I want and which store has it before I even go in. I even use the self check out, cause I'm better at it then the cashiers! : )

You use a shortcrust pastry. Too the can of pumpkin you add milk and eggs and sugar and spices. It is a sweet custard style dessert. I make it as a custard side dish all year round without the crust.
It is so popular for Thanksgiving that you can buy ready-made pastry already rolled out, just fit it into your pan,and ready-made pie filling, just pour it in and bake.
Or you can buy the can of pumpkin and add too it for your pie.
They even have a spice mix you can buy just for pumpkin pie!
Rather obsessive about it, aren't we?

That is funny, cause my crochet is so tight it's impossible to work after the first few rows, much to MY grandmother's dismay when she tried to teach me. But knitting was a different story. I guess we all have our fortes.

Took a school trip to ski and so many of us ended up in casts, 14 out of 38 kids, that some of the parents considered sueing. I can say it was great fun, but my parents never let me go on another school trip, ever!
It wasn't all that painful at the time but has had a major effect on my problems getting around easily now that I'm older.

Tried it once in my life , at 13, and ended up in a cast. Had no desire to ever try again.

Wow! That's great looking Gillian,
I tried my first sweater this past summer, it's black with a white wolf on the front and boy that was tough. I made it for my son and that is what he asked for, if I'd known how difficult it was gonna be I don't think I would have offered!

I took a look BB, amazing is truly the word for it.
They say that those kind of numbers occured in North American with the Passenger Pigeon, before being exterminated.
Horrible the things that man can do to his environment!

Thanks for the good wishes! Funny how people have different tastes. Pumpkin pie has never been my favorite, actually my fav is an classic English Mincemeat Pie, but a southern fav runs a close 2nd, Pecan Pie.
My daughter doesn't really like pies so she is making Pumpkin Cheesecake and my son is making his fav Apple pie, so my kitchen is very crowded today. What's the old saying about too many cooks? : )

Happy Thanksgiving Raquel!
Hope you have a grand day!
It did not take long for my new English husband to be introduced to an American Thanksgiving, our wedding was on the day before Thanksgiving in 1976, and the next day he discovered Pumpkin pie.
We don't always have the traditional turkey meal(this year it's going to be Leg of Lamb), but he always insists on pumpkin pie!
Sweet potato souffle was a tradition in my family but it never had marshmallows, I can't like that combo either.

Great blog NP. The sculpting adds so much to make your garden unique. I love it.
Years ago I was in a TINY town in Oklahoma and I saw a little house that had all of the front of the fence made out of tools, I had to stop and ask about it. The old man said he had just filled in the chain link fence panels with welded together tools, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, all kinds of things. It was very cool and literally stopped traffic, which I guess in that town was no big deal. I still remember that house, made quite an impression! : )

Sounds fab, M.
Some times if you look for them you can find the nicest little places. We don't go out to eat as much as we used too, but it is something we love to do and over the years we have found quite a few good little restaurants to visit. Some of which are tiny "holes in the wall", but really great!
Sounds like you found just the thing!

Hi Raquel,
Houston rarely sees snow does it?
I remember the last time we moved back there (from Pittsburgh) we traveled in 3 cars and got stuck in Arkansas for 2 days because of snow. When we finely arrived in Houston it was snowing there also! The entire city shut down, that was the first time I had ever driven in snow (age 16) that was Jan.1973. That may have been the last time it snowed in Houston. lol
I have lived in places where it snows a lot and places where it never snows and I much prefer the later : )

I'm not clear on what exactly you are doing, if this is a compost pile then a certain ratio of green to brown is needed and the temp of the breakdown WILL kill any worms, if however you are relaying on the worms to break down scraps you are doing vermiculture which is different, and requires different things. Something sprouting in a worm bin is no big deal!
On question - Is it ok that plants are growing...
