Had to make a tough decision today. One of my Basil plants had been turning brown from the soil up the stems and I had allready had to cut off 2 stalks, well the 3rd stem had started turning brown also, so rather than risk losing all my basil I decided to get rid of that one plant and maybe the others will survive. I will have to find something to replace it, but not today. I have spent a good bit of my day making up a homemade pepper spray to spray in and around the garden to repel that chipmunk. Hope it works!

I think you made the right decision Wohlibuli. If it had some kind of disease then the others are safe. How do you make your peper spray. We have a chipmunk who comes in and out of my back garden from the yard behind me. I see him running around a lot and have never noticed any damage in my garden.

Mikec,
I first had to go to a local hispanic grocery and buy 2 lbs of Habanero peppers, the hottest, and then blend them up with grain alcohol in the blender, then I added veg. oil and after letting it sit for 12 hours I then poured it thru a sieve and then let the mixture sit to separate. I then decanted the oil into a mister bottle and today I will spray it in and around my patio boxes. My son discovered that the chipmunk was using my nice loose soil in the boxes as a perfect dust bath area, and in doing so was undermining the roots of some plants and chewing thru some others. After some research on the internet I decided this method might work and would not require any pesticides. Fingers crossed anyway!
