Our Unruly Cottage Garden!

The garden is doing it again! Plants are taking over, getting too big, spreading too far and generally doing their own thing! We try to take control but obviously we need to try harder!

Come with me and take a look at the colourful chaos!

The clematis peeping through the roses is called ‘Wisley’.

The other clematis peeping through the same rather rigorous rose is called ’Comtesse de Bouchard.

A little corner containing new penstemons, a ‘Ballerina’ rose and the lovely scented climber ‘Zephirine Drouhin!’

Another fast-growing rose is ‘Rosy Cushion.’ It is always covered in flowers through the summer.

We have lots of shady areas with many shades of green.

Even the grass is unruly in places because we have left the clover for our bees instead of mowing!

Told you it has a mind of its own especially at this time of year!
At least there are some smallish flowers dotted about! They tend to behave!

it doesn't look unruly to me Chris it looks to be a perfect summer garden full to over flowing with wonderful scented flowers ... :o))

This is what gardens do.....to look good!
We added lots of clover to the seedmix for our lawns(if you could call them that!) especially to attract bees, which it did, but also to keep more green patches in the summer, as the grass usually scorched and turned brown, clover being so much more draught proof.
Lovely garden, bet it smells good too!

Just a little bit of heaven...

definitely doing its own thing and that is how it should be, mine is doing exactly the same, which is probably a good thing at the moment as I have no time left in the day to garden at the minute. Sarah has gone back to work and I am chief in charge of baby Lottie, it is nearly as good as gardening. lol. forgotten how tiring it is looking after a baby. She is no trouble though such a happy smiling baby and loves entertaining me. lol. Loving every minute but need to get some props for my eyelids. lol.

Just my type of garden...... Bliss... Sitting amongst these beautiful plants and flowers you relax instantly (with the help of a glass of Pimms...) I rather like the rather romantic and unstructured look. Lovely :)

A wonderful wonderful garden with great planting mixing and mingling, a place to relax and enjoy.

I agree with everyone its a joy to see and my kind of garden, everything having a scramble and sharing their space, a garden for a meander on a nice sunny day just to see and smell its delights....

Your garden is a delight! I hate regimental gardens, just as well as mine is anything but lol! I don't have a lawn, but I love to see clover lawns, so much softer on the eye and on the feet! than grass.

You are all so lovely and have made the kindest of comments.

I do have a wonderful wedding to look forward to but heard this morning that my dear mum aged 90 has died.

Your comments have cheered me as I sit here and can't believe what has happened.

We will go to the wedding and we will smile because she loved her 2 grandsons so much and then we will go to her home and take care of her.

Sorry to share my sadness but I know you are all friends on here.

xx

Wildrose thinking of you, try to remember all the good days and try to enjoy your sons wedding. I am sure after reaching 90 years of age your mum enjoyed her life and she would wish you the same, so try to have a good day with your son and family it will not be easy but it is what your mum would have wished for.

Thank you for so many words of comfort and sound advice. I appreciate everything written on here and it has helped such a lot.

A wedding followed by a funeral......the circle of life I guess. Mum had a huge sense of pride so I mustn't let the side down must I?!

xx

I've only just noticed ... I'm sorry to hear about your mother. 90 is a great age to reach, but it will be a sad loss never the less. It must have been a shock for you, especially with a happy occasion to look forward to. Please accept my deepest sympathy x

i love the garden. You have a broad range of colors and it seems like something is always in bloom. Very sorry to learn of your mom's passing.

10 Jul, 2015

That why I grow a cottage garden. Give it a little push in the spring and then as time goes on it has it's own idea of what it wants to look like and it's absolutely full of surprises. Now, my I convey to you and yours my deepest sympathy for your loss.

What a lovely garden you have, it's so nice to see one looking so natural & full of colour & interest.
Now as for unruly - you should see mine, lol. Ah well, I try but nature has it's own way in the end.
So sorry to hear of your sad loss & hope the wedding will be a happy occasion for you to treasure. Such mixed emotions to try to deal with. Take care.

Just to let you all know,we were invited to meet Chris and her Family today,as their Sons Wedding venue wasn't far from us,and she said she would like us to meet .We spent some time together before the Bride arrived, who looked stunning, and so did Chris and all the family and guests..:o) She also said she felt much better today, and I conveyed everyone's good wishes and messages of condolence to her, till she gets back home, and can read them herself, for which she thanks you all ..It was lovely to meet another friend of Goy,and the sun shone on this special day, which made it even better..She doesn't have WiFi ,at the moment,so I'm writing to you on her behalf.

Wildrose I was very sorry to hear of your sad loss, I know I am late with this message but I still wanted to send my condolences to you and your family, didn't want to put this message on your happy wedding blog, your dear mum had a long life and I like to think she was looking over you all and sharing in your day....

Linclass thank you so much for your lovely kind words. I too believe mum was sharing the wedding with us, I do hope so.

She was liked by everyone who met her and has left quite a gap. Lots of lovely memories.
