Disappointment!

Has this ever happened to you?

A few months ago, I bought two packets of hollyhocks as pictured here.

I really liked the two different colours and looked forward to them appearing outside our dining-room window.

However, it was not to be, these are my two hollyhocks – both exactly the same!

Nice as they are, I was really looking forward to seeing the apricot one. I wonder who ended up with it, also by mistake?!

Shame you got the same ones but they are still so pretty.

We have hollyhocks growing at Glamis Castle walled garden.

I forgot to take photos.

Not sure if Karen did but will do next time I take my camera.

I planted a packet of seeds 2yrs ago, I have some and my daughter has the others we both ended up with red and pink ones.......

I have a pink one that has white flowers this year, I was told they mutate, don't quite get that though.

It is a shame, Chris, but there seem to be quite a few plants that don't always "come true". (Yes, it has happened to me . . . my last-year's 'apricot' delphinium is now a blue one!).

That's a shame but they look pretty anyway.

It is disappointing when this kind of thing happens Chris - still they look nice and healthy, that's always a bonus!
Maybe you can try again next year :)

At least you have two very healthy and colourful looking plants! Maybe try again next year with the other one you wanted.

Oh what a shame..I had the same problem with Oriental Poppies, I wanted deep red and got actually got pale pink, very disappointing...I know just how you feel, but at least they're health plants. Will you keep them?

The Red are both lovely together, but when you are expecting Apricot,it's not on,is it? ..you will have to try again next year..but I do like them as they are :o)

I have been so cross about this kind of thing this year Rose. I invested in 9 digitalis for my green and white garden...all from the same place but three were bought later on...and every single one of them was pale peach! It is annoying when you plan a colour scheme and this happens. I've dug them all out and they've gone to Glamis Castle to the Walled Gardens there. I hope they flower again next year, and perhaps I shall find some white ones...but I'll wait until they are in flower next time...there's a lot to be said for doing that!

I feel I am in good company which has cheered me up :-)

I shall try to find something else that is peachy in colour to make up for it!

I thought this only happened to me one packet of white nicottina seeds all turned out multi coloured and the same with the white cosmos seed, puts me off growing from seed.

Not only happens with seed Chris, I bought a buddleja golden glow .......purple! Also a fantastic Primula alpicola var.violacea 'Wine Red' .......yellow:-( I got a refund on that last one, but didn't help with the disappointment. Still ... all very pretty like your hollyhock :-)

Very disappointing :o)
I bought a Fuchsia from a specialist nursery this spring. It was one I particularly wanted to replace ...
but it's nothing like it.
I shall let them know !

Such a shame they aren't what you were anticipating - but the colour you have is beautiful! Florists also make mistakes as a bouquet I recently received - although splendid with dusky pink Roses and pink/white Alstromerias - was ordered as Apricot Roses and Freesias! Lost in translation comes to mind ... :o)

I bet both bouquets would have been lovely so at least what they did was probably very nice indeed......I would love to have worked in a florist's shop if only I hadn't been a teacher!!! I wonder if they'd still train me up?!!!

My daughter-in-law began training as a florist, sadly she gave up halfway through the course as the College moved campus some distance away and she didn't drive at the time. I love the modern day arrangements but wouldn't have a clue where to start ... :o)

My biggest disappointment was when I purchased a Chocolate Cosmos.... turned out to be a White Aster, very tall with small flowers!!!!!!

16 Sep, 2013

......and not a whiff of chocolate anywhere :-(
