The Joys of Cornwall!

Today we spent the day in Falmouth and it made me think that living there could be rather nice!

The little blue boat in the foreground belongs to us. At the moment she is out of the water and as she is quite old now she needs a lot of work. Today my husband was busy ‘anti-fouling’ the hull and I guessed that I would be scrubbing the decks, varnishing wood or polishing the crome!

However, no such thing!! I bravely remarked that I might be in the way and suggested that perhaps I should go into Falmouth instead! He obviously thought that I WOULD be in the way so he willingly dropped me off not far from the town centre.

I had such a lovely time as there are lots of galleries, craft shops and tea-rooms, but the best part was my walk back to the boatyard. I had to follow a coastal road which took me past marinas and gave me wonderful elevated views of the bay and the countryside beyond. It was warm and springlike and as I began to look into people’s gardens I was amazed at what I was seeing.
As well as crocuses, primroses and daffodils galore, the following plants were in flower and looking beautiful:
Azaleas
Aubretia
Camelias
Forget-me-nots
Magnolia blossom
Periwinkles
Rosemary
Wallflowers
If only I had had the camera with me at the time!

How lucky they are down there to have a milder and gentler climate to enjoy.

To complete a perfect day, on our drive home to Devon, we saw all things Cornish at once! We were driving past fields of daffodils with a ruined tin mine in the background and then we overtook a Ginsters lorry filled with pasties!! We couldn’t have been anywhere else could we?!!

It does sound like an idyllic day to me, the bottom photo looks wonderful and you're so lucky to have a boat! Hope you get lots of sunny days this year so that you can sail it often when it gets back into shape. Glad you enjoyed your day and thanks for sharing it with us :)

I love Falmouth too ... did you see all the tall shop buildings that back on to the harbour? Back in the 90s when OH worked in retail he had to sack a shop manager ... the young manager was so furious that he threw the shop keys out the window into the harbour! I believe his words were "If you want the keys, go fishing!" By the way, what is 'anti-fouling' ?!!

It is the process of putting on a special type of paint to deter any sea life that might want to attach itself to the boat such as mussels and barnacles. John gets a lot of it on himself too!

oooooh lucky you, that sounds perfect!

Oh, I do envy you, Chris, I would love to live in Devon or Cornwall! There are not many places to go near us! What a lovely scene. I love boats and the sound of the water!
We have been told that more snow is on the way! All we've had this week is cold foggy days! So depressing! Roll on June! Hahaa!

No idea how i missed this Chris . . . So glad you had such a wonderful day! Falmouth is one of my favourite places, obvs, as son No.2 lives there and loves it. He's only had one frost in this awful "Spring". It's great to know that so many flowers are thriving there: thanks for sharing. X
