The weather is so awful...

The weather is so awful, it made me cast y mind back to our last holiday, at the beginning of March. Once again we went to Portugal, staying in Albufeira, somewhere we’ve not stayed before…but certainly will again.

These first photo’s are of our accommodation. My apologies, I don’t normally focus so much on where we stay, but this was so exceptional I had to show you. We expected a hotel with rooms, what we got was ‘villas’ with ‘suites’ It was beautiful and far abouve our expectations.

You’ve now looked at some photo’s of the beach area. It was even warm enough for a dip, but I’ve spared your blushes on that lol!

These fantastic murals were on walls leading to the subway. It makes a change to see something this artistic, rather than graffiti.

We took a trip to Faro (the Algarve capital) which was interesting, but not somewhere we’d be bothered to go to again.

This Church was beautiful inside, but what drew us in was the sign post for the ‘Bone Chapel’…

It was quite a shock, I can tell you!

And to finish the trip, just some of the flora. I hope I’ve helped to dispel some of the weather blues.

Oh how lovely, what brilliant accomodation, I thought you had booked an apartment!
So quiet too and hardly a car in sight?
look at that blue sky and lovely flowers, love the streets and patterened paving.....I'll pass on the bone chapel!

Well, that looks like my kind of holiday JUlia! We went to Portugal once, in July. It was quite cold on a couple of days, which put OH off. but I have really happy memories of it. We stayed nearer to Faro. I agree with you that it's not incredibly wonderful, but worth a day trip. I didn't see the chapel of bones though. Isn't it amazing how we have different attitudes to skeletons. Fascinating and very beautiful in its own way. What I loved most about Portugal were the beaches and the hillside villages. Your accommodation looks very nice indeed! We've had showers and windy cold sunshine, but I have managed to get quite a few jobs done outside. It really has gone very cold...wintry again. 'April is the cruellest month!'

the bone chapels are quite common apparently. My daughter and her partner enjoy visiting them. This one is on there wish list too.

Well worth remembering.

I think you were there the week before we arrived! I also think you had better weather than us!

We stay at Oura which is about a half an hour walk from Albufeira. It has been so lovely to see your photos of this very welcoming sunny place. Your accommodation looks superb.

I am glad the escalator was there to get us down to the beach and then back up again! We travelled on the little train a couple of times because we got tired of waiting for the bus!

Happy times for both of us!
Thanks.

What amazing accommodation - must have been a lovely surprise! We stayed not far from Albufeira one year in February but didn't explore the town at all - rather wish we had now! The flowers were wonderful even then but now they look fantastic. A great week, but I too will pass on the bones...

I didn't expect your villa to be so sumptuous ,Julia, even though you described it to me..what a gorgeous place,,no wonder you will be returning...I would be curious enough to go see those bones..anything historical is interesting to me,however morbid...Love the beaches ,flowers and scenery too..Thanks for sharing with us ..xx

An ideal escape from the winter doldrums. I would have been content just staying inside the villa, it is so accommodating. The coast line is breath taking and love the plazas. You are very brave, Julia, to venture inside "Bone Chapel." A little too creepy for me, lol!

We tend to take a break just before winter sets in Paul, and another at the end. Portugal has become one of our favs. It's temperatures are just right at both ends of the year, neither of us like it baking hot. My OH had been reading a book recently which mentioned the 'Bone Chapel', so we were both curious to see it...not somewhere I would rush back to, far too macabre for our liking.
