Something other than football!

I can’t be the only one who’s fed up with all this football, so I thought I’d put a Blog together and post a few pics from the garden.

This is the first flower on the Passion Flower. I moved this earlier this year and wasn’t sure how it would take to the new spot. As it turns out, it seems quite happy and has lots of buds yet to flower.

This Delphinium was given to me by a friend but I’ve no idea what its called. I have others, namely ‘Summer Skies’ but they’re not fully open yet.

Sweet Williams all doing well. I love these and they flower for such a long time.

This Ornamental Orange had been reduced from £35 to £5 at my local GC. It was totally pot bound and as dry as a board. I’ve repotted it and given it a good feed as well as watering it regularly. Hard to see on this pic, but it’s now covered in blossom buds. :)

This one is for Hywel. These plants were growing in a large concrete container, outside a restaurant in Cyprus, when we went there last November. My OH managed to break off these three ‘cuttings’ (naughty I know) and this is the result. I’ve no idea what they are, but I really like the red tinge to the leaves.

Thanks for looking and if you ARE into football, I hope your team wins.

I'm not into any sport :( Sitting there watching someone else play a game is my idea of boredom :(
It never gets put on in this house anyway, so I can't really say I'm fed up with it lol

Thanks for showing some nice garden photos. I love your ornamental orange :)

The plant from Cyprus is Aeonium schwarzkopf.
I used to have a 4 foot tall one but it eventually died one frosty night when I forgot to bring it in.
I've got a new one now but it is only about an inch high at the moment :o))

Scotcat; Yes that's true. Then its Wimbledon, Commonwealth Games, Tour D' Yorkshire...then the football season again. Groan!

Hywel; I should have known you'd know what it was lol! Any tips on caring for it? I've got it in a very gritty/sandy compost at the moment, which seemed to be what the others were growing in.

I agree Waddy the football is a pain. If it was rugby league I would love it though! There are few arguments and stand offs with the ref. He calls for rerun on a huge screen, everyone can see if a try is in doubt. Young hot heads can cool off. Civilised, good use of technology. Your pictures are lovely. Sweet Williams gorgeous. Just overpaid louts running around. Never watched a minute of it so far.

I'm not interested in football either so your blog is welcome relief. I was in the garden enjoying the sunshine but the family next door are swearing at each other very loudly so I retreated inside! They aren't often there all together so its not usually a problem. I love the colour of your delphiniums, so vibrant well done for rescuing that lovely orange tree. It is thriving under your tlc :)

Hello Waddy. I hate football too. I never watch it for one second. As I heard England is out of the world cup already, but I can still see flags on cars and vans.

Looking forward to the Tennis and Commonwealth Games

The batton passes end of our street on Saturday.

This Aeonium is from the Canary islands, and it likes a free draining soil.
Water much like a cactus - In summer when the soil has dried out, give it a good soaking, then allow to dry out again.
In winter keep on the dry side, and in a frost free place :)
Give it plenty of light, in order to maintain the rich colour :)

Hywel; Thank you. I've actually repotted them today into the same mixture I used for the 'cuttings' I've got it stood outside at the moment, but I'm wondering about what to do if we get a lot of rain, should I bring it indoors until it gets drier? Thanks.

Wildrose; Thank you, glad you liked what you saw.

Scotkat; Ah well, It takes all sorts I suppose. It's a good job we're not all the same.

Kokkin' Not as many as there were lol!

Gee19; What a shame your rude noisy rude neighbours drove you in doors, especially as we're having such nice weather. I hope they've quietened down now. Thank you for your kind comments.

Dorjac; I agree with every word with regards to rugby. I can never understand why these overpaid footballers, who should be setting an example to the youngsters of today are allowed to argue with the referees., who word should be final.

It will be all right in the rain as long as the compost is very free draining.
You only need to bring it in during the winter, to avoid it getting frosted.
I do believe they can stand a few degrees of frost in their native habitats, but not the damp wet frosts we get here :(

I hate rugby most of all :o( I can watch football and tennis for about 3/4 of an hour without getting bored, if I have to ... but rugby ought to be banned !!! :( lol ... !

I'm ok here as hubby watches football upstairs, he likes to be on his own when footie is on, I'm a very disillusioned person as regards the footballers of today, can't for the life of me see the justification in paying them that amount of money, plus most of them are so wimpy these days, one bump and they're rolling about on the ground as though in agony..To be honest, I cannot stand to watch any sport unless its sports day for my grandchildren, lol....
Nice photo's Waddy.....

I was taken to Rugby league local matches by my dad, he came home from the war wanting connection with his children aged 10 and 11. Warrington had a master forward Bevan, like Stanley Mathews in skills.Rubgy league has been revamped in a sensible way. I remember no swearing at matches, and we do well internationally at Rugby league and union. I do not like Rugby Union. I'm so sorry Gee has such uncouth neighbours, it is such a shame not to peacefully enjoy your garden.
