Revamped back garden part 2

Hi, folks,
As it would appear I’ve not bored everyone to death, and as the weather isn’t fit to turn the cat out, I thought I’d risk part 2…

The fencing and posts arrived, but needed wood stain, all 5, 6×6 panels..both sides!

Once the fence was in place, some plants were ‘replanted’ Notice the beginning of digging out for the pond on the edge of the picture. I was forced to do this using only a trowel and my back wouldn’t stand me using a spade.

Working in such a small garden sometimes resulted in more of a mess than was intended..but I hope you approve of the finished result.
This the Water Urn’s third move and the last! It took a while to get the pond right as we had an unexplained leak. All sorted now thank goodness. Freya is now eagerly awaiting the first frogs :)

A new Arch for the Clematis.

And just to prove many of the plants have already taken and there’s still some colour…

This pic is for Bloomer, :)

This is for Hywel…obviously not in the garden!

Thanks for looking, hope you haven’t been too bored!

You have been busy. It is looking lovely. I like your variety of plants and the way you have managed to make the garden seem much bigger using different heights. The pond is first class. I'm sure you wont have to wait too long for some frogs. I visited an Open Garden in Edinburgh named the frog garden because the owner donates some of the proceeds to the frog trust. She had a small polystyrene hat floating in the pond which helped to give shelter to some of the occupants.

TT; Thank you, I didn't think it was that good :)

BA; It's thanks to all the other 'befores and afters' that I was inspired :)

Olive: Thank you, I must admit, there is still lots to see, despite the awful weather.

Bloomer; Thank you. I was so pleased when the new flower appeared on the Geranium, there are also a couple of new buds too, so it must like its new home :)

Scotsgran; Lol, don't know if I'll go as far as the hat, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the frogs in spring :)

You used a hand trowel to dig out the pond? My goodness you must have some patience Waddy! All the effort was so worthwhile though, looks great now ... :o)

I love all your efforts and think the pond is really lovely as is the rest of your garden.
Please help me to remember the name of the flower in the picture above the Japanese Anemone as I like them a lot and we used to have them here a long time ago.

S.T; I really didn't have much choice! I spread the work over several days, taking rests every 3/4hr or so. My OH would have willingly done the work for me, but his hips and knees are both bad, so I couldn't have asked him, that would have been too cruel.

W.R; I've looked at the photo you refer to and the only thing I can see is a Hosta..is that what you mean? Sorry I don't know which particular one it is.

WR I think you mean the schizostylus coccinea. I think the common name is Kaffir lily. It is below the antirrhinum (snapdragon) Waddy.

Ah, now I see the one you meant, WR.
The plant in question is a Hesperantha Coccinea or sometimes called a River Lily. It was newly planted last autumn, but I had to move it from its original position, to put in the pond. It had flowered once, in its old position, but for some reason right down at the bottom of the plant. After moving it to its new spot, it has rewarded me with lots of flowers...and is still gowing strong.

Well, you certainly did a grand job! ... :o)

Hi Waddy, you are right it is Hesperantha coccinea, it was formerly known as Schizostylus coccinea. As they learn more about plants they reclassify to make the name more relevant. I'm not surprised it is flowering better for you because it likes to grow near water. Both river lily and Kaffir lily as used as common names. It is a beauty flowering so late in the year.

Hi Scotsgran,
I have to own up, I only know its latin name because of the label on it lol!
The funny thing is, it's further away from water now than before. Perhaps it's due to all the rain we've been having recently! :)

That is all right Waddy. I went to a lecture on the plants of Lesotho and the Drakensberg mountains last week. They were shown growing near water which is probably why they got the name of river lilies.

I love your re-vamped gerden and all the colours especially the Japanese Anemone:)

Waddy you must have the patience of a saint digging your pond out with a trowel, it looks a treat as does the rest of your garden....
