Goodbye Weedy Lawn.

We’ve been struggling to make anything decent of our lawn, since we moved in three years ago, but the roots which penetrated under it from nearby conifers were sapping out all the moisture etc. and it was full of weeds and moss, which despite our best efforts we’ve been unable to eradicate. So, in desperation, we gave up.

The lawn has been dug up and a ‘tiller’ used to break up the soil. Then a bed of sand laid around the outer boarder and a ‘vibrator plate’ used to make it firm.

The ever resourceful OH begins to lay the new path around the new bed.

The flags now laid, it’s beginning to look much better.

Originally the plan was to make a ‘Sedum’ bed, but as the nursery we want to buy them from is quite a long way off, rather than leave it bare, I’ve put in some bedding plants for now. I hope you approve. When I replant with the ‘Sedums’ I’ll post pics.

Much better than a weedy lawn! I quite like the way it is now and that barrel is very attractive.

A great idea Waddy,I had same problems where I had large conifers so they all got taken out.Like the feature with the barrel.

I'm liking what you've achieved here. So much better and much less hassle than a weedy lawn. Once those annuals fill out it will be a massive splash if colour. Well done!

Gosh, what a difference! Next time you come out here for a visit, bring Richard and tell him to bring his vibrator plate with him. If I look out for some interesting sedums for you, can I have your lovely half-barrel, please?

20 Jun, 2013

Hi Gattina,
Sorry don't think I'll get Richard or his vibrator plate over to see you. Silly man doesn't know what he's missing. However, you can look out for interesting sedums at that super garden centre we went to, then we'll have an excuse to visit again (as if we need one!), but the barrel will have to stay were it is I'm afraid.

20 Jun, 2013

Huh! I shall have to think about that one! We're going off to that garden centre on Saturday morning, and I shall have a look for sedums for you then.

It looks lovely. Much better than a boring lawn.
